Great history, but with large gaps and a delusional finale
Revisado: 04-28-24
I've read a few books on the Dulles brothers and I found this one to have a decent history of their coups right up until it came to the one Alan conducted here in America. The history of the crimes committed by this country is useful, but the conclusion of this book is the most ruling class elite delusional nonsense I've ever heard in my life. It projects the views of oligarchic leaders and their little capitalist minions as though those are the views of average Americans. It doesn't acknowledge the reality that those Americans have been brain poisoned by leaders like the Dulles Brothers and a ruling class who sees the world as available for its plunder. most Americans today do not Trace their heritage back to the pioneers. most of them are immigrants who came during different wars and famines or crises, many of which were caused by America and other colonialist empires. They don't fear other people because that is innate and in their nature, they fear other people because the oligarchs who run their news stations and the oligarchs who run their government lie to them on a regular basis about what is happening in the world. to understand this reality, all we need to do is look around and see that every big social movement was led by young people who had Not accepted the brainwashing of the system they were in. The majority of Americans don't have foreign investments. The majority of Americans don't want their tax dollars spent on Foreign wars. the majority of Americans fear what they are being told by the oligarchy in this country to fear. The problem with this book is that it's a writer, probably a member of the ruling elite themselves, conflates their own acceptance and similarity to these writers as though it is some kind of trait shared by the majority or some kind of overwhelming character of this country.
The reality of America is actually just an oligarchy where some people run roughshot over everything and Freedom only exists for those people. They fire the people who don't agree with them. They are taught to be supremacists through elite institutions that give them delusions of grandeur and either contribute to or directly impart sociopathy. these things are then projected top down onto the people of the country, and they either resist them or they accept that that's reality and parrot them. All I can say is thank God for the young people who continue to resist these ideas. every person who opposed these insane actions that the Dulles Brothers ignored, every person they fired, every person who they didn't respect is just as much a part of America as the oligarchy. They are the thing that make America great... But until the country actually operates as some type of democracy or other egalitarian system they will be ignored by psychos like the Dulles Brothers and their corporate overlords who destroy the world and pretend to do it in the name of America or freedom or God or whatever mantra they've convinced themselves is more important than the lives of other human beings.
And listening to someone talk about reflecting on these things as they say things that most Americans were never told and that would be removed from text books by the same oligarchs the Dulles Brothers serve is truly ironic. It's America and it's undemocratic and sociopathic ruling elite that need to question themselves and the system they've created that don't allow for the input of the rest of the population, just a constant onslaught of media telling them who to hate and what to fear. Let's hope this younger generation can hold on to their sense of justice and willingness to be open-minded towards things like socialism and communism that the older generations have been propagandized too intensely to see clearly.

Historia
Based on interviews with more than 40 survivors, knowledgeable political insiders, and Soviet archives of the period, investigative writer Joan Mellen presents evidence suggesting complicity between US and Israeli intelligence in the attack on Liberty and the more than 50-year long cover-up. What were the underlying motives? Was this a false flag operation conducted in the midst of the Six-Day War? Was it conceivable that Israel would have initiated such an operation without a green light from the United States?

a must read
Revisado: 04-21-24
anyone interested in what the politics of the United States actually are should absolutely read this book. It is a dark statement on the nature of the criminal clandestine state and its collaboration with Israel. a perfect example of what happens when fascism is allowed to rule the day and no one is willing to stand up and tell the truth in the face of a few psychopaths with too much power. It is the truly a tale of treason from within the government itself and perfectly illustrates why America's special relationship with Israel should never have happened and must be unwound by future generations.

DiEugenio, who has spent decades researching the Kennedy assassination, takes both an analytical and conversational approach to his fascinating exploration of the pivotal historical events and scandals surrounding that day.

absolutely brilliant!
Revisado: 08-09-23
This book is an extremely important read for anyone interested in understanding the backdrop of the Kennedy assassination. The book itself is so informative. The narrator is great for 95% of the time... But I wish to god he did not do accents for the presidents. I don't know why he does it? sometimes it sounds okay but sometimes it just gets ridiculous.

In this landmark volume, Scott traces how culpable elements in the CIA and FBI helped prepare for the assassination, and how the deep state continues to influence our politics today. As timely and important as ever in the current chaotic political climate, Dallas '63 is a reality-shattering, frightening exposé not of those who govern us - but of those who govern those who govern us.

a well sourced and researched book
Revisado: 07-13-23
Not sure if this is the best book for beginners in terms of the JFK assassination, but if you've read other works on the subject and are familiar with the big strokes it's a great read in terms of explaining CIA and government involvement in the cover up and in the instance of some actors, the assassination itself. It's very detailed and footnoted with official documents. I don't think it's possible to walk away from this book still harboring the delusion that Oswald was a lone nut. His role inside the US intelligence apparatus is well documented here.

could be great
Revisado: 07-08-23
This book could legitimately be great if this person actually spent time researching the JFK assassination through other sources before writing it... but the fact that they talk about the school of the Americas like it's a part of the army and not a part of the CIA? Okay, so went to the School of the Americas that was basically home base for all of the coups in Latin America? Pataki was a CIA agent or asset. Kind of a big deal. Who did the mafia work for in terms of the government? Oh yeah, the CIA directly tied to JFK's assassination through Oswald and Ruby and the entire Bay of Pigs. They literally never refer to Alan Dulles once but they constantly talk about Hoover?? Oswald was literally set up through friends of Dulles. Not saying anything positive about Hoover... but Oswald was clearly a part of the fake defector program to Russia and all of those Bay of Pigs. operatives are tied directly to the disgruntled and fired Allen Dulles... The same guy who was on the Warren commission and turned the investigation into a sham. Then suddenly you throw in the fact that this guy was at the school of the Americas and that all of these mafia ties exist - when the mafia was completely intertwined with the CIA in the Cuba operations during this period of time? Why was Oswald pretending to be a pro-Cuban in New Orleans? hello CIA. What a strange thing to miss. It's all over this story. It's almost like this writer is talking about stuff Dorothy is too at risk to say... while being afraid to talk about reality. Or they just didn't do the work to research these subjects. This person would do well to update themselves on the current research and do an addendum.
But it's interesting for sure! All of the first hand accounts are great. Dorothy is fascinating.

Historia
To trace the evolution of the American state, Aaron Good takes a deep-politics approach. The term “deep state” was badly misappropriated during the Trump era. In the simplest sense, it here refers to all those institutions that collectively exercise undemocratic power over state and society. To trace how we arrived at this point, American Exception explores various deep state institutions and history-making interventions.

An absolute must read!
Revisado: 09-04-22
This book is an absolute must read for anyone who finds themselves puzzled over the failures of American democracy. While many books provide enlightening histories of the individual campaigns and crimes of American intelligence organizations, this book takes those actions both at home and abroad and connects them to the functioning of the state overall and our ability to achieve what would seem like basic and universal democratic goals of reducing poverty, educating our citizens, taking action on crises like climate change, and avoiding nuclear war. This is the ultimate guide to understanding how America operates and why our attempts to change it for the better have failed so markedly.

Historia
In 1965, the US government helped the Indonesian military kill approximately one million innocent civilians. This was one of the most important turning points of the 20th century, eliminating the largest communist party outside China and the Soviet Union and inspiring copycat terror programs in faraway countries like Brazil and Chile. But these events remain widely overlooked, precisely because the CIA's secret interventions were so successful.

should be required reading
Revisado: 06-26-22
This book is incredibly well researched and told in a very compelling manner - every American should be reading this in history class. It's a shocking account of the psychotic and brutal anti-communist policies of the United States, And what becomes very clear after reading it is that the idea of America exporting democracy is just propaganda - America's actual role around the world has been to decimate left-leaning governments trying to make a better life for their people in favor of right-wing totalitarian dictatorships and propping up war criminals.
