Thought Provoking Development

Details, narrative and performance made me listen twice. The main character had hope for her situation to improve, and for her husband to unveil a hidden compassion. She also realizes her actions and behavior are her only tools. The characters and the reader all have challenges to meet. It was a very satisfying listen.

Loved the multiple narrators. Ironically, they did not remain as established individuals, as a listener experiences when hearing one narrator's interpretation. Each impression of every character unfolded and at the same time, introduced delicious wrinkles.
It was written 6 years ago... I hope to find sequels, prequels, or other writings by this author since then.

Sympathetic Protagonist

Although the writer had military advice, someone should have told her that Frankie could prove her service with a DD-214, but then there would be no book.
The book was a bit too long, but it kept me rooting for the main character. Her suffering was quite real, during and after her service. It was a crime how only now, with World Wars, Korea, Vietnam, the Cold War, the Middle East, Ukraine, that civilians thank vets for their service.

Loved it times 3! Listened to some chapters several times, not just because I listen before sleep and my timer is broken. All the characters well-voiced, fleshed out. All was engaging, with just enough forgiveable over-the-top danger and struggle events. Resolution was sweet and plausible. Highly recommend.
