Fantastic
Revisado: 07-28-20
This book was just wonderful. I’ve listened to it twice and I’m sure I’ll listen again. The fact the Admiral McRaven reads it himself makes it even better, where he adds inflection or a little chuckle, he had me laughing out loud. I choked up and cried several times too, even the 2nd time through when I knew what was coming. Leadership lessons buried in his honest accounts of his own growth through the years, this is one of the best books I’ve read in years - I can’t stop telling people about it! Definitely worth a listen, or two...or three.

Historia
Reeve LeClaire is a college student, dammit, not Daryl Wayne Flint's victim. Not anymore-not when Reeve is finally recovering a life of her own after four years of captivity. Flint is safely locked up in Olshaker Psychiatric Hospital, where he belongs. He is walking the grounds of the forensic unit, performing his strange but apparently harmless rituals. It seems that he is still suffering the effects of the head injury he suffered in the car crash that freed Reeve seven years ago. Post-concussive syndrome, they call it.

Good premise but reaches too much
Revisado: 07-30-17
The story itself was mostly good and really could have been great but I was distracted and eventually annoyed by the too often occurrence of near clairvoyance on the part of the main character. It seemed whenever a crucial moment was upon us, rather than the story developing in a clever and organic way, the author rather chose for these ridiculous out of the blue type realizations that would come to her, telling where to go or what to do next. It was a small annoyance I guess but feel that the author really could have filled out these sections, rather than take the easy way out, and the book would have potentially gone from good to amazing.

Historia
In Beatrice Prior's dystopian Chicago, society is divided into five factions, each dedicated to the cultivation of a particular virtue - Candor (the honest), Abnegation (the selfless), Dauntless (the brave), Amity (the peaceful), and Erudite (the intelligent). On an appointed day of every year, all sixteen-year-olds must select the faction to which they will devote the rest of their lives. For Beatrice, the decision is between staying with her family and being who she really is - she can't have both. So she makes a choice that surprises everyone, including herself.

Loved it!
Revisado: 10-14-12
What a wonderful book! I just downloaded Insurgent and if it is anything like Divergent, I'm not going to be able to stand it waiting for the next one to come out! Although I feel silly at 32 reading YA books, you just can't argue with good writing!
Four is such an amazing character, the wonderful connections between his complexity and his born selflessness and Tris is the perfect complement.
I enjoyed this even more than the Hunger Games series as Tris is a more confident character and I enjoyed this aspect.
Definitely recommend!

Historia
Could you survive on your own, in the wild, with everyone out to make sure you don't live to see the morning? In the ruins of a place once known as North America lies the nation of Panem, a shining Capitol surrounded by 12 outlying districts. The Capitol is harsh and cruel and keeps the districts in line by forcing them all to send one boy and one girl between the ages of 12 and 18 to participate in the annual Hunger Games, a fight to the death on live TV.

Finally gave in - good thing!
Revisado: 08-02-12
I resisted this series for awhile because I didn't want to just be one more on the bandwagon but finally gave in and purchased them - and so glad I did! These books were amazing! I spent hours between listening sessions thinking about the intricacies of the stories and ultimately had to talk myself out of starting the whole series over the minute I'd finished with the last book. Fantastic stories. I found myself sometimes becoming frustrated with Katniss and her immaturity and her selfish approach to some of her relationships (how could she be so stunning one moment and so self-centered the next) and I would then need to remind myself that the character is a teenager and therefore the behavior made sense. But that is probably my only complaint about the entire thing. I did rate the performance a bit lower because I felt that Carolyn McCormick read it a bit slowly and over enunciated some of the words and that became annoying - but I'm sure that's just a nit-picky thing that many won't even notice. I absolutely recommend!

Historia
Maybe it was the Shenanigans gift certificate that put her over the edge. When children's librarian and self-professed nice girl Jane Jameson is fired by her beastly boss and handed $25 in potato skins instead of a severance check, she goes on a bender that's sure to become Half Moon Hollow legend. On her way home, she's mistaken for a deer, shot, and left for dead.

Totally Entertaining!
Revisado: 08-02-12
This isn't normally my genre of books - but I saw the reviews on how funny this whole series was and they were completely right! I was not only consistently entertained by the books in the Jane Jameson series but frequently treated to laugh-out-loud humor. I'm lucky that I listen to audio books during my long solo commute - otherwise I'm sure I would have been labeled as a crazy person for my bursts laughter. Can't wait for more!
