Historia
The Goldfinch is a haunted odyssey through present-day America and a drama of enthralling force and acuity. It begins with a boy. Theo Decker, a 13-year-old New Yorker, miraculously survives an accident that kills his mother. Abandoned by his father, Theo is taken in by the family of a wealthy friend. Bewildered by his strange new home on Park Avenue, disturbed by schoolmates who don't know how to talk to him, and tormented above all by his unbearable longing for his mother, he clings to one thing that reminds him of her: a small, mysteriously captivating painting that ultimately draws Theo into the underworld of art.

It felt like it was 30 years long
Revisado: 04-29-16
I realize that you are forewarned that it is 32.5 hours long but it felt like the author accounted every single day of the 30+ years of Theo's life.
Nothing is left to reader/listeners imagination as she painstakingly details every single sight, sound, thought, touch or taste.

Historia
Elsa is seven years old and different. Her grandmother is 77 years old and crazy, standing-on-the-balcony-firing-paintball-guns-at-men-who-want-to-talk-about-Jesus crazy. She is also Elsa's best and only friend. At night Elsa takes refuge in her grandmother's stories, in the Land of Almost-Awake and the Kingdom of Miamas, where everybody is different and nobody needs to be normal.

Reminded me
Revisado: 10-22-15
This story reminded me of the trouble I would get into with my grandmother. No one loved me like that woman.

Story is alright narrator was horrible
Revisado: 09-04-14
Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?
I just couldn't get past the irritating narrator. I usually switch between audio and book as I drive quite a bit. Not this time, I just waited for down time to read the story on my iPad. The Valley Girl tone made it impossible to get into the story lines - especially the "erotica". It was like listening to a Jr. High school girl.
Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Becca Battoe?
Anyone - and if you really want to make this sexy, have a guy reading the male roles.
If this book were a movie would you go see it?
Not since they recast. I was so looking forward to Charlie Hunnam playing this role.

Faced with a case of unimaginable proportions, Miranda summons Brockton for help proving or refuting the claim. Both scientists are skeptical but evidence for authenticity soon grows stronger.

Too many characters
Revisado: 08-29-13
What did you like best about Big Red Tequila? What did you like least?
Since I am from San Antonio, I could visualize the places described in the book. There were too many characters and much of the book was spend developing them. This took away from the actual story line.
