Historia
Leovander Loveage is a master of small magics. He can summon butterflies with a song or turn someone’s hair pink by snapping his fingers. Though such minor charms don’t earn him much respect, anything more elaborate always blows up in his face, and so Leo vowed long ago never to use powerful magic again. That is, until a mishap with a forbidden spell binds Leo to obey the commands of his longtime rival, Sebastian Grimm. Grimm is Leo’s complete opposite—respected, exceptionally talented, and absolutely insufferable.

OUTSTANDING Narration!!!! Masterful Writing!!
Revisado: 04-17-25
Our narrator Ciaran Saward is an absolute wonder! Beyond the appeal of his innate tonal gifts—which he could easily have rested upon and input no other effort—he PERFORMS the piece rather than just narrates. His timing, inflection, and vocal modulation to differentiate characters is on par with the forever fantastic greats, James Joseph and Will M Watt.
His performance elevates an already superb prose that is truly a stand out, especially as a freshman effort. The world building and explanation of how magic works, as well as the fantastical locales and creatures, are so well realized the immersive experience comes easily. The leads while, of course, archetypal to an extent, are imbued with so much more life that grounds them and veers them far from being cliches. And the supporting characters are given room to go beyond being one dimensional.
HEA aficionados be warned that this is very much a slow burn and is not resolved by the end. The ending is surely a cliff hangar in more than one way that I was unprepared for, But! The story, the characters, the narration—I am so ready for the next installment! And hopefully with our same narrator and author creating another masterful work!

Gay, YA version of Netflix’s Wednesday!
Revisado: 03-20-25
The cover art Really set the visual tone for me. The spooky, aged, boarding school campus and black cat/golden retriever dynamic was very reminiscent of the aforementioned show—and it generally works! The narrators do a serviceable job of denoting their respective characters in their performance. Definitely a lighter read with a HEA ending. The teen MCs are definitely young, and the overall tone is very much YA. I wasn’t quite expecting it (which is on me for not paying more attention to the description haha) so do keep that in mind— there is a bunch of teenage angst!

Historia
My path to success never included an enemy as a teammate, especially one as infuriating as Quinton de Haas. Clawing under my skin is his favorite pastime, only feeding the animosity between us as the years pass. We’re as completely opposite as two people can be; the golden boy and the black sheep. Constantly at odds or at each other’s throats. The only thing we can agree on is hockey is our true love, and we’ll do whatever it takes to come out on top. I never imagined that drive would lead me to do the unthinkable: falling into bed with my not-so-straight rival.

Spice and Angst!
Revisado: 12-20-24
There is absolutely no shortage of spicey scenes and angsty feels in this one. So if that is your thing you’re going to be more than satisfied. It was a bit trope-ish with the archetypes of the hot headed bad boy with the heart of gold, neglected rich kid, and the serious, rule abiding golden boy, but overall was enjoyable—especially with the immersive performances of our joint narrators. I specifically got this piece on the strength of Mr Christian Fox alone and neither he nor Mr Dicosimo disappoint.

Great Story, Wonderful Performances
Revisado: 11-25-24
I was already familiar with, and a fan of, the consummate Mr Hamilton as a narrator, but Christian Fox was a new find for me—and what a find indeed! His performance, paired with the steadfast delivery of Mr Hamilton, was wonderfully immersive. He gave such a nuanced voice to Keaton in particular. and his delivery was so organic.
The story itself, while veering heavily into the tropish territory of black cat/ golden retriever and privileged rich frat boy vs the ambitious stripper with the heart of gold—handled these things rather deftly. And while HEA was expected from the romcom, it felt earned. Between the golden retriever characterization and Mr Fox’a performance, I have to say that the character of Keaton was a very enjoyable part of this piece.

Solid World-building and Fantastic Narration!
Revisado: 11-14-24
So I purchased this purely on the strength of the absolutely incomparable narrator James Joseph; he truly performs his pieces, not just narrates, giving each character their own distinctive sound—And it enlivens any story.
But the author made James’ job all the easier by crafting such a solid story!!! The characterization was realistic and thorough; the connection between the two main love interests felt so genuine. I absolutely adored Rowan, and Briar avoided the ever common pitfall of an annoying or foolish protagonist.
And the world building!! This takes place clearly in a fantastical world of witches and magic as the norm that mirrors our modern one. The combination of modern elements, like the author’s equivalent to Instagram, and the old timey add ins such as everyone wearing a cape and/or a witches hat—and that being norm—was very well blended. The mythology of the forest and how magic works in general in this world was clearly well thought out.
Hats off to both the narrator and author!

Wonderful Characters and Apt Narration!
Revisado: 10-17-24
Absolutely adored our main couple, both good men working through trauma, but the author was able to make them distinct and avoided archetypal pitfalls. Definitely an elevated writing style, which is wonderful and requires focus, but not so much so as to alienate a causal reader. The author definitely did their research of the era and it adds to a more immersive experience.
On that note of immersion, the narrator performed this piece as if he stepped right out of the time period! Each character was given a distinct tone, even subtly, that allowed the listener to follow who was speaking.
Masterful prose and an inspired performance of narration made this piece such a joy to experience!

Narrator and Author-Perfect Coupling!
Revisado: 02-20-24
As the freshman effort for the author, this was phenomenal! I was immediately transported, and got genuine chills as the gothic horror elements were navigated rather well. A mild critique would simply be pacing, as the meat of the main mystery has a belated start—but once it’s up, it’s nonstop!! Characterization, in my opinion, was rather realistic, for however one may like or dislike the characters’ personalities. But what really made the story was Will Watt’s stellar performance. This was my first piece by the narrator and I am beyond enthralled. His buttery baritone flits deftly from character to character, giving each their own unique sound. The author’s engaging prose and the narrator’s immersive performance complement each other for a chilling and entertaining experience!

Phenomenal Narration and Fantastic Dialogue
Revisado: 02-20-24
Alexis Hall and Will Watt are in high form in the respective roles as author and narrator!! Hall, as always, creates loveable and realistic characters, even when they’re thrust into somewhat far-fetched hijinks. And Watts, also as per usual, elevates an already stellar narrative with his distinctive performances of each character and butter smooth vocals. Would love to see another collaboration between these consummate creatives!!
