Our love story is simple. I met a gorgeous woman. We fell in love. We had kids. We moved to the suburbs. We told each other our biggest dreams and our darkest secrets. And then we got bored. We look like a normal couple. We're your neighbors, the parents of your kid's friend, the acquaintances with whom you keep meaning to get dinner. We all have our secrets to keeping a marriage alive. This book is a must read for all white individuals!!!
“You will be called out/in as you do antiracism work. Making mistakes is how you learn and do better going forward. Being called out/in is not a deterrent to the work. It is part of the work.”
This is a very engaging and thought provoking book about #systemicracism and many other #racialissues such as #microaggressions and #whitefragility. The short chapters are followed by reflection prompts and questions that are designed to be answered over the course of 28 days. You can go at your own pace, of course.
I bought the audiobook and thought the narration by Layla was fantastic. This is a great companion to other antiracism books. I HIGHLY recommend to my white friends. 5 stars!!!⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

As I psychotherapist I couldn’t wait to get my hands on this book. I do wish I could say this book was an eye-opener but it only confirmed what is obvious to me and to anyone else who isn’t blindly enchanted by Donald Trump’s psychological disorders. Mary Trump, who has a Ph.D in clinical psychology, has spent years studying personality disorders amongst other things. She confirms what I already knew about DJT. He is a narcissistic sociopath and, therefore, a complete fraud (to put it mildly).
📚
This book focuses more on the dysfunction of the Trump family itself. It zooms in on how Donald Trump’s father, Fred Trump, played a large role in feeding and creating a lot of the family and individual dysfunction. It compares how Fred disparaged his eldest son Freddie and blatantly favored Donald.
📚
I’m giving the book/audio 5 stars because it was, in fact, quite interesting to hear. In a way, I feel sorry for Trump. He has never known real love and will probably never know it. It’s not a question of being a Republican or Democrat. It’s about the nature or lack thereof, in this case, of humanity.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Favorite Quotes:

“Donald’s need for affirmation is so great that he doesn’t seem to notice that the largest group of his supporters are people he wouldn’t condescend to be seen with outside of a rally. His deep-seated insecurities have created in him a black hole of need that constantly requires the light of compliments that disappears as soon as he’s soaked it in. Nothing is ever enough.”
📚
“Donald today is much as he was at three years old: incapable of growing, learning, or evolving, unable to regulate his emotions, moderate his responses, or take in and synthesize information.” #toomuchandneverenough #maryltrumpphd #marytrumpbook #donaldtrumpjr #DJT #donaldtrump #trumpfamily #bookstagram #booksofinstagram #bookstagrammer

Historia
The construct of race has always been used to gain and keep power, to create dynamics that separate and silence. This remarkable reimagining of Dr. Ibram X. Kendi's National Book Award-winning Stamped from the Beginning reveals the history of racist ideas in America, and inspires hope for an antiracist future. It takes you on a race journey from then to now, shows you why we feel how we feel, and why the poison of racism lingers. It also proves that while racist ideas have always been easy to fabricate and distribute, they can also be discredited.

This was a very good read, by Jason Reynolds, on systemic racism. If you can get an audio copy you should do so as Mr. Reynolds is a terrific narrator. I feel like every person should read/listen this book to better understand American history and how race and racism is woven into the very fabric of this country. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

That way, your generation can finally, actively chop it down.”

Revisado: 04-11-20
First of all... if I were a sociopath, I’d wanna be just like Jane because she is amazing! This book is the 2nd to “Jane Doe” and was just as good, if not better! Jane is on the hunt for her niece who is also a sociopath involved in some trouble. I pictured Jane slinking around like a cat throughout the book searching for her “prey”. I loved the story and character development as well as seeing more of Jane’s “softer side” in regards to her niece and boyfriend. You’re missing out if you don’t read this but make sure you read “Jane Doe” first! 5 stars for sure ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Revisado: 02-20-20
This audiobook was great! It’s a novella and it pulls you in pretty fast. The character development is well done and the narration is on point. I was pleasantly surprised as the story becomes quite psychological exploring that human-beings need belonging, structure and love. The book also explores the struggles we have with grief. Lee Bacon did a great job. I highly recommend this novella!

Intense read and a win for Gardner!
Revisado: 11-12-19
Let me begin by stating that I LOVE #LisaGardner and have read her books for years 📚 If you enjoy suspense, mystery, thrillers and romance, she’s your girl! This particular novel is about a woman, Tess, who came to the realization that her abusive husband, Jim, is also a psychotic serial killer. Tess helped with his capture and 2 year imprisonment, until he methodically escapes wanting 2 things - to kill Tess for revenge and run off with their daughter, Samantha.
Tess is the epitome of a woman who has been beaten down by this monster. She has lost everything including her daughter due to Jim. Now, she is ready to stop hiding and fight back. But... she needs some help first 😉
This novel will have you on the edge of your seat but I will say there could have been better character and relationship development in some areas of the story. I should note this novel may be quite triggering due to the abuse and overall gruesome details. Overall I give it 4 stars. Definitely worth a read or listen though. The ending is satisfying! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

In her hit Netflix comedy special Baby Cobra, an eight-month pregnant Ali Wong resonated so strongly that she even became a popular Halloween costume. Wong told the world her remarkably unfiltered thoughts on marriage, sex, Asian culture, working women, and why you never see new mom comics on stage but you sure see plenty of new dads.

Another win for Ali Wong!!!
Revisado: 10-29-19
#DearGirls by @AliWong is a phenomenal #memoir in which she writes to her daughters. It doesn’t even matter if you aren’t familiar with Ali’s amazing comedy... read or listen to it! PS ~ If you are unfamiliar please go search her on @Netflix ASAP. Please note this book, like her stand-up, includes EXTREMELY mature content. Ali is raw, real, uninhibited and hilariously raunchy as she tells stories and lessons from all (and I mean ALL) aspects of her life. She also does a fantastic job reminding her daughters to never forget, and be proud of, their Asian heritage. She also challenges gender norms as she praises and clearly adores her supportive husband as she ascends in the public eye, with her family right behind her, in a male-dominated profession. There’s even an afterword by Ali’s husband, Justin, which brought sweet tears to my eyes (sniff-sniff). I think my biggest take away from this book is that life is all about being true to yourself, taking risks and not allowing fear to hold you back otherwise you’ll go nowhere and be miserable and/or alone.
5 stars for @AliWong !!! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
.
ONE Favorite Quote: “My family had always told me how to speak and how to feel about things. Part of what was so liberating about being on stage was that I could say whatever I wanted without having loved ones comment on it. Regardless of how the strangers would respond, at least they were strangers who didn’t know me or have any real authority over who I was.”

Attention Harry Potter fans! You will enjoy this YA book which is similar but no copycat of JK Rowling. Amelia’s character is adorable. You will love her journey in this musical, witchcraft school. The narration and musicality throughout the book is superb. I subtracted one star due to a little chaos and rush in the book. Otherwise it was fantastic making me want to re-read the HP series again. Definitely worth a listen!!!
