Phenomenal storytelling
Revisado: 03-24-24
I loved this book. It twisted and turned in a really satisfying and believable way. It really captured fame and old Hollywood glamor while still being a true love story.

Historia
Set during the partition of British India in 1947, a time when neighbor was pitted against neighbor and families were torn apart, award-winning author Chitra Banerjee Divakaruni’s novel brings to life the sweeping story of three sisters caught up in events beyond their control, their unbreakable bond, and their incredible struggle against powerful odds.

Beautiful story from one of my favorite authors
Revisado: 05-25-23
I am always fully taken in by Chitra Banerjee Divakuruni's writing and this was no exception. I feel like I need to do some historical research into this time period now as my knowledge of the partition is definitely lacking. I am not a huge fan of stories about family dynamics (which I know sounds odd) but I really love her stories. They are beautiful and illustrative.

Historia
January 1946: London is emerging from the shadow of the Second World War, and writer Juliet Ashton is looking for her next book subject. Who could imagine that she would find it in a letter from a man she’s never met, a native of the island of Guernsey, who has come across her name written inside a book by Charles Lamb.... As Juliet and her new correspondent exchange letters, Juliet is drawn into the world of this man and his friends - and what a wonderfully eccentric world it is.

The right book comes when you need it
Revisado: 12-04-17
If you could sum up The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society in three words, what would they be?
Heartwarming, charming, touching.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
This book completely enchanted me. I cried when it was over.
Any additional comments?
Having recently experienced a loss, I didn't realize I was aching for something good, warm, and positive until I started listening to this book. Now I desperately want to find a Guernsey nearer to home. If you are in search of healing, don't hesitate to grab this book!

Historia
On May 1, 1915, with WWI entering its tenth month, a luxury ocean liner as richly appointed as an English country house sailed out of New York, bound for Liverpool, carrying a record number of children and infants. The passengers were surprisingly at ease, even though Germany had declared the seas around Britain to be a war zone. For months, German U-boats had brought terror to the North Atlantic.

Eric Larson is amazing
Revisado: 07-09-15
I do not typically read nonfiction but I can never put one of Eric Larson's books down until it is finished. Dead Wake does not disappoint!
