Historia
In 1922, Count Alexander Rostov is deemed an unrepentant aristocrat by a Bolshevik tribunal, and is sentenced to house arrest in the Metropol, a grand hotel across the street from the Kremlin. Rostov, an indomitable man of erudition and wit, has never worked a day in his life, and must now live in an attic room while some of the most tumultuous decades in Russian history are unfolding outside the hotel’s doors. Unexpectedly, his reduced circumstances provide him entry into a much larger world of emotional discovery.

Truly exceptional read and performance
Revisado: 02-13-17
This book is exceptionally well-written and the performance is inspired. One of the few books that I immediately listened to again once finishing. I did not want it to end. Lovers of historical fiction will particularly enjoy this book. Bravo!

Historia
Orient is an isolated town on the north fork of Long Island, its future as a historic village newly threatened by the arrival of wealthy transplants from Manhattan - many of them artists. One late summer morning, the body of a local caretaker is found in the open water; the same day, a monstrous animal corpse is found on the beach, presumed a casualty from a nearby research lab. With rumors flying, eyes turn to Mills Chevern - a tumbleweed orphan newly arrived in town from the West with no ties and a hazy history.

Surprised this was reviewed so highly
Revisado: 12-02-16
I was surprised that this book was rated so highly. The writing was beautifully crafted but many details in the plot were not believable. I put it down several times out of frustration but did manage to finish it. It was almost as if the author wrote a series of painterly scenes and then pasted them together, hoping they would hang together as a cohesive believable unit. This book had the potential to be excellent if it had been run by a judicious editor with an eye for continuity.
The author nailed the intellectual art scene. Cudos. The reader was excellent.

Sound effects very distracting and annoying
Revisado: 05-26-15
Entertaining although unbelievable spy thriller. The male and female readers performed very well although the sound effects were distracting, cheesy and annoying. I hope that the use of sound effects does NOT become standard.

Historia
General George S. Patton, Jr., died under mysterious circumstances in the months following the end of World War II. For almost 70 years, there has been suspicion that his death was not an accident - and may very well have been an act of assassination. Killing Patton will take listeners inside the final year of the war and recount the events surrounding Patton's tragic demise, naming names of the many powerful individuals who wanted him silenced.

Stick with it!
Revisado: 04-08-15
Great book! Detailed glimpse into the Battle of the Bulge and the end of WWIi in the European theatre. I enjoyed the book despite O'Reilly's reading of it. Stick with it if you start it and can't stand the voicing.

Masterful!

Marvelous insight into RLS's life and times. Bravo to the narrator for her masterful voicing particularly her male Irish brogue! Astonishingly convincing and nuanced.
