Historia
Richard Wright's powerful and eloquent memoir of his journey from innocence to experience in the Jim Crow South. At once an unashamed confession and a profound indictment, Black Boy is a poignant record of struggle and endurance - a seminal literary work that illuminates our own time. The once controversial, now classic American autobiography measures the brutality and rawness of the Jim Crow South against the sheer desperate will it took to survive as a Black boy. Seventy-five years later, his words continue to reverberate.

GLAD I READ IT IN ADVANCE
Revisado: 05-01-23
This is the story of Black Boy’s challenges growing up. The reader/performer did not do a good job of portraying this man’s life. Had I not read it (many times) in advance, I would have been sorely disappointed and would not have read it again. Nor would I have gotten the audio version. I think those who make the decisions knew what they were doing. The thing is they can do better, but think we will accept anything. This was a terrible job and I believe those who know, knew!

Quite a surprising ending. Enjoyed story but way too short. Would like to see it developed into more of a storyline.

Vocabulary expansion
Revisado: 04-21-22
I have read and it listened to many of Robyn Carr’s novels. In EVERY one she defines something negative as “BLACK.” Black mood, Black scowel, and on and on. I would think anyone who has written as many books as she, would have a broader vocabulary.

I thought the first audio performance was better. In this one the Taoist was a lot more tame and Gina wasn’t as sexy.

But children who were abused, raped, bullied, mistreated or neglected during their earliest years, face the transition at an even greater disadvantage. For they not only come completely ill-prepared, but also badly scarred, and often still licking the wounds from their childhoods.

Sad But True
Revisado: 12-02-19
This story captivates you because the abuse just goes on and on and goes beyond belief. The fact that this child kept coming in contact with authorities, kept telling her story to those who are trained to see abuse and identify it and yet was never believed is disturbing. The reader is riveting.

Historia
Booker T. Washington fought his way out of slavery to become an educator, statesman, political shaper, and proponent of the "do-it-yourself" idea. In his autobiography, he describes his early life as a slave on a Virginia plantation, his steady rise during the Civil War, his struggle for education, his schooling at the Hampton Institute, and his years as founder and president of the Tuskegee Institute in Alabama, which was devoted to helping minorities learn useful, marketable skills.

OUT OF BREATH READER
Revisado: 09-13-19
The story is iconic and difficult to not like. The reader has succeeded in doing this though. He reads as though he is going to a race, stops, takes an audible deep breath and starts reading again as though he wants to get in as much as he can prior to having to take another breath. This caused me not to enjoy this book. I have never heard anyone read so fast. Really not enjoyable.

Thirteen years in hell
Revisado: 04-15-19
This story sounds too awful to believe. It is difficult to believe that people can be so depraved that they would subject another human being to the pain and horrible treatment this young lady underwent. How she survived shows the indomitable strength of the human spirit. I have listened to this story fifteen or twenty times and still wonder how she survived.

ANOTHER WINNER
Revisado: 12-28-15
What other book might you compare Bane to and why?
I like the Westmoreland series and was anxious to find out what happened to Bane. This answered the question. I think the reader for Crystal made her sound as though she was sick and barely going to make it. I would like to hear the book with a different reader.
What about Sean Crisden’s performance did you like?
Sean Crisden performed the male roles very well. It put me in the story.
Any additional comments?
The only additional comment I have is again about the reader of the female parts. I kept thinking Crystal was going to break down in tears or vomit.
