I’ve never read a series quite like this one before. The author has a brilliant mind for his craft.

Normally a narrative this long would start to drag a bit, but even after 11 books I am still engaged and looking for more. I am genuinely interested in where he’s going, and the potential paths feel endless, while still planting enough foreshadowing to carry a strong plot.

At book eleven, I imagine anyone reading this would be trying to answer the question of whether or not the story is worth continuing. To that end I’d say that this one improves upon the earlier work is subtle ways and otherwise continues to deliver a consistent performance. I enjoyed it and am glad to have invested the time to continue following the shenanigans Zogarth so deftly delivers.

Way too much

Way too long, with way too much noise, and way too many flags to carry. This book is so scattered that even the summary is too much.

My least favorite part about this book is the fact that Sanderson doesn’t actually write it himself. He’s not an author. He’s a producer. And, this book is way over produced. It’s like a photoshopped photo masquerading in an analog contest.

Honestly, this book is disgusting.

I’ve loved so much of his work. The first entry on this series was so good. It just evolved into an over-engineered mess. Maybe the diehards love it, but there is no way it will stand up over time.

Sanderson dreams of being a Jordan, and it over influences everything he does.

Solid short story

On point with the rest of the material. I got through the main books and went back for everything I could get. I am glad I did.

Excellent expansion on the core narrative

A solid 3 part story that builds well on the earlier materials and continues to expand the story and its universe.

Same style, but not quite as good as the earlier ones.

Overall it was a familiar and enjoyable foray into the Murderbot series. However, it took me several tries to get through it. This one felt a bit less engaging/interesting vs the others.

One of the greatest stories I’ve heard

This was excellently done. A great story, with phenomenal narration. I would put this on par with Musashi, and well ahead of many of the stories I’ve had the good fortune to enjoy.

I am glad I listened to it, but I won’t continue the series. It’s a great narrative and there are some interesting concepts to play with, but the story feels a bit shallow. If I could get the rest of the books 3 for 1, I would. Otherwise I’ll probably hold until the off chance I find them in a used book store.

Not fantasy

I may have just had the wrong expectations, but I came into this based on a list of recommended 2023 fantasy books . This is more like a woman’s POV romance drama, that happens to be in a simple fantasy world. There is nothing wrong with that , it is just not at all what I was looking for.

This is one of the greatest novels I’ve ever had the pleasure of reading (listening to). I couldn’t recommend it more to anyone who loves either a great story or an epic novel.
