The most important political book of 2023

If you've been following my book recommendations for a while, you know that I absolutely adore Mikhail Zygar’s seminal work, All the Kremlin’s Men, which delves into Putin’s rise to power. I loved it so much that I chose it as my personal book of the year 2019.

Now, Mikhail has penned a sort of sequel, primarily focused on Ukraine. “War and Punishment: The Story of Russian Oppression and Ukrainian Resistance” is a masterpiece that blends medieval and modern history with current events, including a biographical exploration of Volodymyr Zelensky's journey into politics.

I believe that War and Punishment is the most important political book published this year, given Zygar’s unparalleled insight into Russian and Kremlin politics.

Fun fact: When Zygar first met and interviewed Zelensky, the latter told him that he had read All the Kremlin’s Men to better understand how Putin thinks. Well, good luck with that! Anyway, this is just how indispensable and unique Zygar's perspective is.

If you've read All the Kremlin’s Men, then this new book is a must-read. If you haven’t, I highly recommend reading both books. You'll learn a lot, and I guarantee you won't be able to put them down until you've finished.

Thrilling, unputdownable masterpiece

If you dream of being a published writer, here’s a fantastic book for you to read. Govt Cheese is a brutally honest memoir by Steven Pressfield, the author of The War of Art, Gates of Fire, and other timeless fiction and nonfiction titles.

In this new book, he tells his full origin story for the first time and shares many valuable insights into how the publishing and movie industries work on the inside. It’s a tough business, mostly, and a formidable challenge for any idealistic, creative soul like Steve. He struggled and persevered for decades, working odd freelance or temp jobs, and he turned 52 before his first novel was published.

Govt Cheese is a thrilling, unputdownable masterpiece, especially when it comes to the author-narrated audiobook on Audible.

Nice storytelling but no strory

Each next Zafon's book is getting worse than the previous one. Shadow of the Wind was excellent, this one is the worst in the series so far.

Subjective book based on episodic arguments only

I've read this book as a part of broader research for my upcoming presentation and although it is rather well-written, it is only based on subjective epidodic arguments, that I mostly disagree with. I believe Godin could do way better and I'm sure he did in his other works

Poor novel

Don't trust the testimonials! This is a average novel in every aspect. I have finished it with much effort and would never read it again, nor other McLarty's books. I don't understand how anyone can praise such a book. There's really nothing about it at all. Very disappointing. I was mislead by a publisher's book marketing, again.
