Historia
Perfect Mexican daughters do not go away to college. And they do not move out of their parents' house after high school graduation. Perfect Mexican daughters never abandon their family. But Julia is not your perfect Mexican daughter. That was Olga's role. Then a tragic accident on the busiest street in Chicago leaves Olga dead and Julia left behind to reassemble the shattered pieces of her family. And no one seems to acknowledge that Julia is broken, too. Instead, her mother seems to channel her grief into pointing out every possible way Julia has failed.

Sadly beautiful!
Revisado: 01-08-22
As a Latina, this story was incredibly accurate in its portrayal of la cultura mexicana, family issues, and mental health issues. It’s refreshing to be able to connect to a character so well considering half of what Julia dealt with in the book we’re my realities at that age she was.
This book took me through every emotion and I love that it was set in Chicago because I could vividly see the seething of most places since I was born and raised and still live in Chicago.
The writing style was amazing!
I loved every minute of this book! I want to read more from Erika L. Sánchez. Truly one of my favorite books and one I will recommend time and time again!

Historia
"Anger-management issues." That's how they classified Savannah Sutton after she stuck a pencil in her ex-boyfriend's hand because he mocked her little brother, Evan, for being disabled. That's why they sent her to Brooks Academy - an alternative high school that's used as a temporary detention center. The days at Brooks are miserable, but at home, life is far more bleak. Savvy's struggling to take care of her brother since her mom left years ago, and her alcoholic dad can't be bothered.

Cute high school romance
Revisado: 01-04-22
At first I could not decide whether or not I liked the book because as an adult I couldn’t fully put myself in the foot of the main character (savannah), but after getting to the middle of the book I just had to keep listening to hear what happens at the end. Overall, I think this is a cute high school Romance.
I much prefer Suzanne Young’s The Program series but still enjoyed this book despite me not being the target audience.
I will also say big Kudos to Suzanne Young for writing the book well enough for me to feel sympathetic towards savannah and how nobody seems to care enough about what she deals with until Cameron. I cried in the later chapters as she went through one traumatic event after another (especially with her brother) and for that I rate this book higher as opposed to what I would give it for the storyline alone.
Also, not a big fan of the narration for this book but I learned to like it with time as I listened.
