What accent?

Overall, this was an entertaining story, but I do have a couple of notes.
First, the narrator's accent was all over the place! All over! For example, a British character would speak, and she would switch from almost British to American southern to New York to unidentifiable and back through them all again. It was extremely distracting and made it hard to keep track of who was talking at any given time.
Secondly, the story was pretty good, but the prose was hard to follow often throughout the story. Information was shared at random intervals and completely unrelated to the given situation, or almost too late. Some better editing would have made for a better experience.
I will probably listen to the next one, but I am hoping for some improvement if I am going to continue on in this series. The premise is very interesting, but not good enough to contend with these issues across multiple books.

I enjoy listening to all of these narrators, as well as the author, so I was intrigued by the idea of this play. the premise was interesting and the story was subsequently hilarious and bizarre. I think my favorite part was actually the bloopers, but I am excited to listen to the rom-com that will be coming soon.

I would like to specifically note that I hated this narration. the story intrigued me enough that I suffered through but the narrator was terrible. between swallowing and breathing and background noise and talking too fast and rereading entire lines, I had a hard time even getting into the story, let alone staying immersed.
also, the story, while interesting enough for me to finish it is not one I would have chosen had I known the ending, nor one that I would read again. the premise was interesting but the entire setup and characterization were underdeveloped. and I know that this is a short story and what can I expect but I have read enough shorts to know that even one this short can be realized better than this one was.

I love everything about this series and this book. Helena Hunting has masterfully created a fabulous world that I absolutely love. My only issue with this book at all is that there are a couple of different accents of supporting characters who we have already heard from and SY just cant do them at all. it's a small thing and not a huge percentage of the book but it just jerks me out of the story every time. Otherwise, he did Darren terrifically well.

This is an interesting detective story set but in no way is it romantic, which was a total shock to me since I accessed it through the romance package. Not bad but not what I expected.

I'm not sure whether it was the writer or the narration but it really needed to be edited before publication. Beyond the multiple repeated passages and questionable word choice in several places, I actually really enjoyed both the story and the narrator. it would have been five stars across the board if not for those slight annoyances.

I normally love Sebastian York, but he was completely inconsistent for this book. Con is a southern through and through and Sebastian York just never really gets there for me, and actually spends a lot of time with a New England accent, occasionally switching into a slightly southern accent, and then switching back. It was disappointing, to say the least. That said, he did really well for everything except the accent. I would just recommend he forego it entirely should he every portray southern character in the future.
Everything else about this book was fabulous! I love this entire series and really everything I have ever read from Meghan March, and Andi Arndt was fabulous all the way around. I would highly recommend the book. I just had to express my frustration with Sebastian York's inconsistency, as I am going back to listen the second time around.

"Where's the rest of it?"

All the way through this story, I loved it! It was a perfect continuation of previous stories and was shaping up to be a fabulous conclusion to the series. The McDaniels Brothers were going to be all paired up and happy. It met all of those standards swimmingly, and Christine Bell certainly writes a great story.
That said, I got to the end and literally said to myself "Where's the rest of it?" out loud. This story seems to just end. In the previous stories, we got a final chapter from the next brother as a preview of the next story. Obviously, Reid is last, so there isn't another brother, so I didn't expect that kind of a finish. However, I expected something. This story just ends. It's fabulous, and then there needs to be one more chapter because all of this stuff happens to resolve a lot of problems and then that's it. I am hoping Christine is planning for a final novella or something a year later to wrap up the whole series.
I cannot stress enough that this is a fabulous book. Lola and Reid are both amazing characters and their story is completely unique. If you have been reading the previous stories, you will need this book to see the baby brother happy, especially after the end of Matty's story. It's a great story and there are twists all over the place. It is well worth reading. I just hope there is more coming. The entire book was a 6-star book until the last chapter, and then only because there wasn't one.
As for the audiobook, the performers did a great job. They enhance the story in so many ways. The book, while good on its own, is even better with these performers telling it. I have loved the way that each character gets their own voice and their own actor to perform their parts. It really sets each book apart from the previous one and the entire series apart from others I have listened to. I would buy it again, and I will probably read it again.

Gritty story made better by the performance!

This was a fabulous follow-up to Bash's story. We met Matty and learned his backstory in the first book and this book was all about making progress for the McDaniels Brothers's futures. Kayla was a perfect complement to that end, with her relationship with Mickey. We got to see Bash and Olivia and see how they are doing after their HEA.
I would also like to note that this story is not a replica of the first one with different names. It is unique, with different problems to overcome and a different focus. Obviously, as with anything, there are some predictable moves but I would say it has enough twists to round it out.
As for the performance, it was perfect. The story is very gritty as it deals with different aspects of Boston's seedy underbelly. The performers maximized on that. Their voices were rough and gravely as they told Matty and Kayla's story. It made it feel even more real. I would honestly say that I don't think I would have liked this story as much if I had simply read it and not listened as well.

This audiobook is definitely in the top part of my list. I wouldn't say it is number one per se but the performers did a great job and I loved the characters. Bash is dreamy and so wonderful and such a guy, both the good parts and the really frustrating ones. Olivia is tough and loving and fabulous. I really loved everything about this book. I will say that it took me longer than the recording strictly says because there were several parts that I had to listen to again. I tend to listen to audiobooks while I do other things and this book is almost too intense for that. The emotions are so well written and performed that you really have to pay attention. I loved it from beginning to end and would recommend it to anyone!
