Historia
Plans for a town pantomime are thrown in the air after one of the actors is murdered. The victim is local gossip, nosy parker and aspiring manipulator Ivor Gladwin. Reviled by many and ignored by more, the list of people who could have wanted rid of him seems to grow by the minute. Despite having overstepped the mark in past cases, because of her familiarity with the individuals involved, ex police officer Fabia Havard is actually tasked by her boyfriend, and serving DCI, to look into the matter on the side.

Use of the F word in a cozy mystery
Revisado: 01-16-25
The unnecessary bad language. Cozy mysteries are supposed to be "safe" from excessive gore and bad language. Not the case here. The story itself isn't riveting enough to make up for this breach of the unnecessarily offensive language. Sad because I really wanted to enjoy a book series set in Wales.

Historia
When Lydia takes a job running the Senior Citizens’ Social Club three afternoons a week, she assumes she’ll be spending her time drinking tea and playing gentle games of cards. The members of the Social Club, however, are not at all what Lydia was expecting. From Art, a failed actor turned kleptomaniac to Daphne, who has been hiding from her dark past for decades to Ruby, a Banksy-style knitter who gets revenge in yarn, these seniors look deceptively benign—but when age makes you invisible, secrets are so much easier to hide.

Vulgar
Revisado: 08-28-23
Ms Rowland and her publisher need to look up the definition of cozy mystery. it does not include use of the F word among other things. Audible needs to provide some rating system to warn people of offensive material. I purchased the book and Audible doesn't allow returns for cash purchases.

Good plot but the telling took too long.
Revisado: 03-21-23
The plot wasn't bad. However, the story could have been told in half the time. I appreciated the Christian elements but did think that ALL of Tressa's musings were overdone.
Narrator was okay for the female voices but the hero and father both sounded like raspy old men.

Historia
At the dawn of the last millennium in the year 1000, Europe was one of the world's more stagnant regions-an economically undeveloped, intellectually derivative, and geopolitically passive backwater, with illiteracy, starvation, and disease the norm for almost everyone. Yet only three centuries later, all of this had changed.

Historia
Many of us know the Black Death as a catastrophic event of the medieval world. But the Black Death was arguably the most significant event in Western history, profoundly affecting every aspect of human life, from the economic and social to the political, religious, and cultural. In its wake the plague left a world that was utterly changed, forever altering the traditional structure of European societies and forcing a rethinking of every single system of Western civilization: food production and trade, the church, political institutions, law, art, and more.

Historia
Queensland, Australia, 1936. Sister Claire McAuliffe has been called from Dungarvan, County Waterford, to do God’s work in Jumaaroo, Queensland. Along with four other sisters, she is charged with setting up a Catholic school for the education of the gold rush families. But life between the tropical Australian rainforest and the azure ocean is far from the spectacular paradise it seems. Sister Claire finds life challenging in more ways than she can count, but far more worrying is the constant presence of the much-loved mayor of Jumaaroo, Joseph McGrath.

The story is engaging and informative. The narrator does a great job of getting the different accents right - not an easy job. Grateful for a book that tells a story with some difficult themes without using unnecessary language or graphic descriptions.
