Historia
Ambushed in Afghanistan and betrayed by their own leaders, these elite Marines fought for their lives again, back home. A cross between A Few Good Men and American Sniper, this is the true story of an elite Marine special operations unit bombed by an IED and shot at during an Afghanistan ambush. The Marine Commandos were falsely accused of gunning down innocent Afghan civilians following the ambush. The unit’s leader, Major Fred Galvin, was summarily relieved of duty, and his unit was booted from the combat zone.

A Whole Lot of Bad Men Exposed
Revisado: 08-12-22
I am a former Force Recon Marine and Army Green Beret who retired well prior to 9/11. I am appalled by this story of malice and betrayal by F Co.’s entire chain of command. The actions of Amos, Haas, Kearney, Montanus and Patraeus (along with his idiotic COIN policy) and the rest of the MARSOC leadership perfectly illustrate why we have had such a disastrous result in Afghanistan. The collapse of the ANA, ANP, the evacuation debacle and the recent drone strike killing of Al-Zawahiri living openly in Kabul all lay at the feet of these corrupt, self-serving fools. For such a betrayal of honorable Marines in the interest of inter service politics and a ridiculous COIN policy is criminal. I only wish that the above named officers could suffer the pain and indignation the Marines of Fox Co. suffered. Instead, they’ll continue their lectures and receive honors and board appointments and continue to line their pockets. While Major Galvin and the Fox Company Marines continue to suffer the trauma of the persecution and their abandonment by their command element. We should only send our men and women to war to win. Win the war, period. Then get out. Not win hearts and minds. Vietnam, Afghanistan, Iraq. How are they working out for the above mentioned master minds? Don’t play social/political games with the lives and futures of our troops. Major Galvin and MSOC Fox Co. Thank you for what you did for us that day.

It is 1948. William Thomas Cochrane, an American intelligence agent, is in England with his wife, Laura, visiting friends and family. But when summer arrives, so does the first major international crisis of the postwar years. Cochrane’s country is calling him back to active duty for a special assignment in the newly divided Germany, one which will take him behind newly drawn enemy lines and into a perilous netherworld of ruthless black marketeers, petty criminals, prostitutes, ex-Nazis, and Soviet spies.

Do your homework!
Revisado: 08-05-22
Storyline was very good, but technical, historical and military terminology and events contained a lack of knowledge or research. Josef Goebbels was not hung at Nuremberg. He and Magda committed suicide after poisoning the kids. Second Lieutenants don’t wear stripes, they wear bars. Any Private in the US military knows that. The examples of total and complete lack of knowledge of firearms is too numerous to count. The narrator sounded about 100 years old and I’m on Medicare. As I said, the storyline and character development were good. But the above mentioned errors in details do detract from the book. Many years ago, Tom Clancy started the extensive technical research revolution in fiction several years ago. Now you have authors like Brad Taylor and Jack Carr that rely heavily on the combination of extremely accurate technical details and a great story to engage readers. While Mr. Hynd is not a former CAG or DEVGRU guy, just a little bit of research, fact verification and technical editing would go a long way to remove some of the annoying errors. They really do detract from an excellent story.

Historia
An activist attorney is killed in a cute little L.A. trolley called Angels Flight, far from Harry Bosch's Hollywood turf. But the case is so explosive - and the dead man's enemies inside the LAPD are so numerous - that it falls to Harry to solve it. Now the streets are super heating. Harry's year-old Vegas marriage is unraveling. And the hunt for a killer is leading Harry to another high-profile L.A. murder case, one where every cop had a motive. The question is, did any have the guts?

Drop the background music!!!!
Revisado: 05-22-21
The story is as good as the others in the series (I saw the title season on TV) and the narrator is perfect. The music, while pleasant, is distracting and irritating in this context. It detracts from the performance and story. I don’t listen to background music when I read physical books and most TV shows have dropped soundtracks and laugh tracks. While background music my enhance a Harlequin Romance audiobook, it is only annoying on a book like this or a historical work for instance: Sledge’s With The Old Breed or Philbrick’s Mayflower. Fortunately, that has been done yet.
I give only one star to each category to spotlight the detraction of a good story and performance by otherwise well performed background music. In the future, please choose your target book more wisely. A soundtrack is a no go zone for me.

Historia
This powerful, action-packed memoir puts us in the middle of the legendary fighting force known as the Screaming Eagles. Along the way, Donald R. Burgett, just 19 years old at the time of the battle, vividly captures some of the most horrific action of World War II. From point-blank tank assaults to hand-to-hand combat, Private Burgett and his cold, hungry, and wounded fellow paratroopers stood against an overwhelming enemy force - and won the battle that secured victory for the Allies in World War II.

Great book, I’ve read the print version a couple of times years ago. Why abridged? There is so much more to the story.

Hastily Written?
Revisado: 08-17-20
Book seemed hastily written, too many redundant explanations of background, less technical detail. It may be time to branch off and follow another character in depth. Like Robert Crais, Barry Eisler, Randy Wayne White and Brad Taylor did. Armand Schultz’s narration was excellent, as always.

Great Idea! One of The Fun Listens!
Revisado: 04-11-20
Don Winslow hit a real home run with this format. A string of short stories that have lots of appearances by familiar characters, several out of nowhere. All of his books are entertaining and engaging. But this one is also great fun to listen to, narration excellent. Treat yourself to a wild ride during this time of quarantine and social distancing!

Disappointed After a Long Wait
Revisado: 04-08-20
I’ve loved every other book that Steinhauer has written. All five stars. This one however was too dependent upon books written almost ten years ago. It certainly couldn’t be a stand alone novel and of course it wasn’t meant to be. Too choppy, moving parts that didn’t flow like his previous works. Nothing like his “Bridge Of Sighs” series that meshed wonderfully. I still look forward to his next one.

Narrator’s volume goes from normal conversational volume to skull splitting loud when conveying action.
Caine spends too much time in this book and the prequels losing consciousness not to have permanent TBI.
