Last Grisham For Me
Revisado: 05-01-24
Grisham’s fairy tale ending for an incestuous rape of a child (Spoiler! She’s just fine! ) is pretty disgusting with a heavy religious hand. Wondering why anybody would try to tackle such tough subject matter with such unrealistic absolutes. The overall story just wasn’t up to previous standards. Boo.

Another great story
Revisado: 12-24-23
Herman Koch does not disappoint. His stories are always intelligently written, yet twisted, with complicated characters. I decided to neglect the negative reviews due to past experiences with this author. I was not disappointed.

Historia
Beth and Cath are leaving their husbands. This is a story about two very different women. One is wealthy and having an affair with a man who gives her the kind of love that her cold, detached husband does not. One is living hand to mouth, suffering at the hands of a violent partner who would rather see her dead than leave him. You may think you know these women already and how their lives will unfold. Beth will live happily ever after with her little girl and her soulmate. Cath will go back to her abusive husband. And these two women will never cross paths. But you will be wrong.

So surprised by this Plus novel!
Revisado: 09-17-23
I've been listening to a lot of crime/suspense/mystery novels of late. Most of them are by very notable authors. I have found almost everything lacking in some way -Harlan Conan, James, Patterson, John Grisham among others. Don't get me wrong – they were good. But I thought this one was really great. I thought the ending was a little tidy, Other than that, I thought the story was top notch, but I never did fall in love with any of the characters. I must say that the narrator is one of the best I've heard. In fact, he may be the reason that I listened straight through. Audio is always different! It's definitely worth a listen.

Historia
An 11-year-old boy's violated corpse is found in a town park. Eyewitnesses and fingerprints point unmistakably to one of Flint City's most popular citizens. He is Terry Maitland, Little League coach, English teacher, husband, and father of two girls. Detective Ralph Anderson, whose son Maitland once coached, orders a quick and very public arrest. Maitland has an alibi, but Anderson and the district attorney soon add DNA evidence to go with the fingerprints and witnesses. Their case seems ironclad.

Stephen King of My Youth
Revisado: 09-09-21
Thank you, thank you. This was a binge listen; so well done. I can't remember if I read Salem's Lot or Carrie first, but Salem's Lot had my 12 year old self wearing a protective crucifix for a very long time! Stephen King continued to enthrall me for decades. though the miscast movies almost never lived up to the characters and hype in my own head that the stories provided. Then, either he or I hit a lull, and even though I returned to King from time to time, I just wasn't feeling the same magic. I'm sure I must have missed more than a few. I thought that this book was just great. I had no idea of the connection to Mr. Mercedes until coming upon the name of Brady Hartsfield. I hadn't read Mr. Mercedes, but did catch the exceptional series. This is one of the ones that will stick with me for a while.
