An all time favorite!
Revisado: 04-08-22
I’ve read the book twice and listened to the audio (all 40 hrs) twice. I love Rosamunde Pilcher books and stories and this one is my favorite. What a great Netflix series this would make! As long as they do all the characters and story lines justice. It’s such a sweeping saga! ❤️

Historia
A Place Like Home is a collection of Rosamunde Pilcher’s most enduring short stories, never before published in audiobook form. The collection contains 15 stories, which range from "The Holiday", in which a wife surprises her husband of 25 years with a holiday full of Mediterranean sunshine, red rocks, and blue seas in an effort to rekindle the romance they had before children; "The Eye of Love", which takes the listener to the bright spring sunshine and sparkling waves of a Northumbrian village where old flames meet again; and more.

This is not her best story collection, but knowing a new story will never come again, I’ll take it!

This book kept me enthralled for the four or five days I snatched time to listen to it. The Great Alone was the book that introduced me to Kristin Hannah, after The Nightingale failed to keep my interest. Wonderful story telling.

Predictable Nora Roberts
Revisado: 10-23-20
Nora Roberts is “comfort” reading for me. Predictable stories; feisty heroine with a past; handsome, available man; danger stalking. Unfortunately, the narrator of this book was awful, IMO. Because Sandra Burr narrates the the entire trilogy, I won’t be listening to the others.

Outrageous, funny and ultimately very sweet
Revisado: 07-14-20
Lillian is asked to be the “governess” of the twin step children of her best friend from high school. Left orphaned by the death of their mother, and estranged from their natural father, a U.S. senator, the twins are alleged to spontaneously burst into flames when they are agitated. Lillian is at first skeptical, but she could use the money. Can she live up to the task? Written with humor and heart, this is a charming story of love and redemption.

Justice for Scott Pratt
Revisado: 09-23-19
I loved the Joe Dillard series and was saddened to hear of Mr. Pratt’s untimely death. But I wanted to continue with his stories. Unfortunately there was very little to liked in ‘Justice Redeemed’ including the improbable plot and flimsy characters. RIP Mr. Pratt.
Also the narrator of this book was ridiculously over dramatic, and his female characters sounded like transgender hookers. Please - both male and female narrators - don’t try to sound like the opposite sex. There’s no need to do that if you’re a talented narrator/actor.

Historia
Rachel DeLoache Williams’ new friend Anna Delvey, a self-proclaimed German heiress, was worldly and ambitious. She was also generous - picking up the tab for lavish dinners at Le Coucou, infrared sauna sessions at HigherDOSE, drinks at the 11 Howard Library bar, and regular workout sessions with a celebrity personal trainer. When Anna proposed an all-expenses-paid trip to Marrakech at the five-star La Mamounia hotel, Rachel jumped at the chance. But when Anna’s credit cards mysteriously stopped working, the dream vacation quickly took a dark turn.

Interesting tale, poorly expressed.
Revisado: 09-20-19
This was a fascinating tale of a very young con artist making her way through New York’s young, hip, society. It might be my age, but I couldn’t help think that this book was written by a middle-schooler. I realize the story is written from Rachel DeLoache Williams’ point of view, but all I saw was one self absorbed, hip, young woman being taken in by another self absorbed, hip, young woman. The second being more self absorbed, more hip and quite a bit darker. I can’t wait to read a more in depth, analytical, report on Anna (Delvey) Sorokin.

Lisa See does it again!!
Revisado: 07-09-19
When I first read “Snowflower and the Secret Fan”, I was amazed at how easily, willingly and wonderfully See pulled me into the unknown and exotic world of Chinese social history, specifically, foot binding. I learned so much but was also thrillingly entertained. “Tea Girl of Hummingbird Lane” gave me that same thrill! This time it was about tea! See’s novels are so meticulously researched, and then is presented in incredibly entertaining stories. I recommend all of her novels for the wonderful tales they tell, and for the lessons into Chinese culture they offer.
