Don’t burn a credit.

shamefully biased but also some good qualities

If you want to learn more about Thiel, as I did, this is an OK source for facts, time lines, activities, investments etc. But Chafkin is shamefully biased and bends over backwards to undermine his subject.
The saddest part is that Thiel IS a complicated subject and worthy of critical analysis. But you will NOT get critical analysis, just the typical lazy and uncritical tribalism.
For the record I despise Trump, but Chafkin doesn't even try to understand why Thiel backed him. It's all white supremacy and guilt by association. But even when he is using "guilt by association" he's wrong or just lazy and biased (ie. Eric Weinstein is the leader of a group that complains about woke politics, Jordan Peterson is the controversial psychologist, James Demore's memo was about anti male discrimination, or relying on the discredited SPLC, among countless examples).
My honest opinion is that Chafkin reported it straight and then he and his editors punched it up with cheap HuffPo snark to sell books to knee jerk liberals.
I stuck with it bc the actual reporting was useful in forming my own more full picture of Thiel. Just dismiss the author's editorializing and ad hominem. Will Damron is a terrific narrator.

This post would be the casus belli for a meticulously plotted conspiracy that would end nearly a decade later with a $140 million dollar judgment against Gawker and its bankruptcy. Only later would the world learn that Gawker's demise was not incidental - it had been masterminded by Thiel.
