Historia
Throughout history - from the bone-crushing age of antiquity to the sack-tearing modern era - there have been larger-than-life ass-kickers with a natural talent for unleashing their epic bloodlust on anyone who crossed them. They built empires, smashed armies, and ravaged civilizations for wealth, glory, and ultimate supremacy. Sometimes villains, sometimes heroes, sometimes criminally insane, they had one thing in common: They were all Badass!

Absolutely terrible
Revisado: 11-26-09
If you like those loudly narrated, over-edited cop shows filled with terrible one-liners and lame puns glorifying for the sake of glorifying, you will love this. 12 mins into the 8 hr programme, I deleted it from my computer.
I suggest listening to the sample first (something I usually do, but didn't this time for some silly reason) to see if you can put up with it for just a few minutes.
Reading the summary, I thought this might be a kind of history lesson with a bit of entertaining spin, but instead got an annoying, loud and consistent stream of failed attempts at juvenile comedy. (e.g "she was so smokin' that every man who looked at her got an instant boner".. no really, that's what it says).
Filled with the overglorification of some of history's most infamous and brutal people, I wondered why Hitler wasn't in the Table of Contents which were also very loudly read and set the very low tone for the 8 hours to come.
There needs to be a "Stupid Crap" category for time & money-wasting audiobooks like this.

Historia
From H.G. Wells, the grand master of speculative fiction, comes The Time Machine, a literary and science fiction classic brought brilliantly to life in this full-cast audio adventure. In the heart of Victorian England an inquisitive inventor constructs a Time Machine that hurtles him hundreds of thousands of years into the future. There he finds himself in the violent center of the ultimate conflict between beings of the light and creatures of the dark.

Dramatisation
Revisado: 11-16-06
This should be more clearly identified as a dramatisation.. only after listening, I needed to go looking for the description and eventually found the text, "full cast audio adventure".
I've just finished listening to the excellent War of the Worlds, read by Sean Barrett, so I was a little disappointed to hear several actors in this, instead of just a narrator.
As for the audio itself, I found it quite difficult to listen to. The background sound effects and music sound as if someone has tried to clean up the background hiss.. but the result is little gaps of silence that are far more distracting than any hiss of low quality.
These little gaps of silence even break up the effects and music, to give the irritating effect of a flimsy headphone connection (and no, it's not my headphones).
