Historia
Diagnosed with ADHD at age twelve, Jessica struggled with a brain that she didn’t understand. She lost things constantly, couldn’t finish projects, and felt like she was putting more effort in than everyone around her while falling further and further behind. At thirty-two years old—broke, divorced, and living with her mom—Jessica decided to look more deeply into her ADHD challenges. She reached out to experts, devoured articles, and shared her discoveries on YouTube.

Liberalism is a mental illness
Revisado: 09-05-24
Filtering myopic viewpoint through the crazed lunacy that is the current liberal party’s viewpoints. Filled with pronouns, isms, and oppression culture. Buy this if you want your eyes to roll into the back of your head from exasperated boredom.

Historia
Robert Sapolsky’s Behave, his now classic account of why humans do good and why they do bad, pointed toward an unsettling conclusion: We may not grasp the precise marriage of nature and nurture that creates the physics and chemistry at the base of human behavior, but that doesn’t mean it doesn’t exist. Now, in Determined, Sapolsky takes his argument all the way, mounting a brilliant (and in his inimitable way, delightful) full-frontal assault on the pleasant fantasy that there is some separate self telling our biology what to do.

Entire book is a straw man
Revisado: 11-04-23
I don’t understand where the author gets the idea that “free will” is some magical concept apart from our brain. Yes we are a product of our environment and the history of the universe, that doesn’t mean we don’t exercise some degree of control in our own lives.
Aside from that, there’s some interesting info. It seems to follow this trend where liberals try to absolve people of responsibility though by claiming we’re not responsible for our own actions, which I don’t think the world needs any more of.

Historia
Intelligence is usually seen as the ability to think and learn, but in a rapidly changing world, there's another set of cognitive skills that might matter more: the ability to rethink and unlearn. In our daily lives, too many of us favor the comfort of conviction over the discomfort of doubt. We listen to opinions that make us feel good, instead of ideas that make us think hard. We see disagreement as a threat to our egos, rather than an opportunity to learn.

It Was Funny
Revisado: 07-02-23
I liked how the author had an explanation for everything in terms of how the story fits into the original books and even filled some holes in the original. Very clever author.
I wish it were longer and he would’ve continued with more books, but I’m grateful for what we got!

Historia
How did Fidel Castro fool the CIA for a generation? Why did Neville Chamberlain think he could trust Adolf Hitler? Why are campus sexual assaults on the rise? Do television sitcoms teach us something about the way we relate to each other that isn't true? While tackling these questions, Malcolm Gladwell was not solely writing a book for the page. He was also producing for the ear. In the audiobook version of Talking to Strangers, you’ll hear the voices of people he interviewed - scientists, criminologists, military psychologists.

Pretty good content, perpetuates stereotypes
Revisado: 10-20-19
lot of really interesting stories, author seems to have taken seriously the media's propaganda about cops and presents a very one-sided view against people putting their lives on the line every day to keep us safe.
