Historia
In Unruly, David Mitchell explores how early England's monarchs, while acting as feared rulers firmly guiding their subjects' destinies, were in reality a bunch of lucky sods who were mostly as silly and weird in real life as they appear to us today in their portraits.

The understated humor and everyday similes stood out, as well as the clear explanation of the essence of a complicated subject.

An amusing overview
Revisado: 01-24-24
That was an amusing overview of the monarchy, I was a bit sad it was only English monarchs, it would have been great if he carried on to cover the monarchs once Britain was united. The profanity was unnecessary but overall an enjoyable romp.

Historia
Few books have had such an impact as Wild Swans: a popular best seller and a critically acclaimed history of China that opened up the country to the world. Through the story of three generations of women in her own family - the grandmother given to the warlord as a concubine, the Communist mother, and the daughter herself - Jung Chang reveals the epic history of China's twentieth century. Breathtaking in its scope, unforgettable in its descriptions, this is a masterpiece that is extraordinary in every way.

Fascinating history

What a great insight into life in China in the 1900s. Well written and read. Thoroughly enjoyed this book. I have highly recommended it to many people.

So so story
Revisado: 01-16-23
I didn't like the narrator, she did an excellent job of the different voices but the overall timbre of her voice wasn't pleasant to listen to.
The story itself was a bit disappointing, I would have liked to have heard much more about the actual spying. I nearly gave up listening halfway through as the middle really drags, but the ending did get interesting again. Just not the content I was anticipating.

Historia
As World War II raged in North Africa, General Erwin Rommel was guided by an uncanny sense of his enemies' plans and weaknesses. In the summer of 1942, he led his Axis army swiftly and terrifyingly toward Alexandria, with the goal of overrunning the entire Middle East. Each step was informed by detailed updates on British positions. The Nazis, somehow, had a source for the Allies' greatest secrets.

Interesting history: mediocre narration.

Interesting but complicated book
Revisado: 05-28-22
Fascinating to learn about all the behind the scenes going on’s of the Middle Eastern war. However, as others have said it was hard to keep track of who was who so having a hard copy of the book would have made this easier to follow. The author did jump around the timeline quite a bit which also made it harder to follow. But, on the whole I still enjoyed the story. It does make you feel sorry for all those amazing code breakers who were never recognized publicly for their war winning work. Would definitely recommend a hard copy rather than audio though. The reader’s voice is not the nicest to listen to, and he mispronounced a number of words.

Now leader of the UK himself, Boris Johnson explores what makes up the 'Churchill Factor' - the singular brilliance of one of the most important leaders of the 20th century. Taking on the myths and misconceptions along with the outsized reality, he portrays - with characteristic wit and passion - a man of multiple contradictions, contagious bravery, breath-taking eloquence, matchless strategizing and deep humanity.

Brilliant book about a brilliant man
Revisado: 05-12-18
Such an enjoyable listen. It does jump all over the place in regards to content but that's probably what keeps it so interesting, it's not chronological but tells you snippets from all facets of his life throughout each chapter. Each chapter has a theme /topic so it's still a very well structured story. The narrator has a great voice, a very easy listen. I'm so glad I started listening to it when I had a 4 hour drive ahead of me as it kept me thoroughly entertained for the whole drive and made me look forward to the drive home again so I could keep listening. Loved it, cannot recommend this book enough!!!

Historia
Troy Phelan is a self-made billionaire, one of the richest men in the United States. He is also eccentric, reclusive, confined to a wheelchair, and looking for a way to die. His heirs, to no one's surprise - especially Troy's - are circling like vultures. Nate O'Riley is a high-octane Washington litigator who's lived too hard, too fast, for too long. His second marriage is a shambles, and he is emerging from his fourth stay in rehab armed with little more than his fragile sobriety, good intentions, and resilient sense of humour.

Well spoken
Revisado: 01-29-18
Frank Muller did well putting on the different accents for each character. I enjoyed listening to this but did so at 1.25 speed as I found him a little slow, even then I probably could have sped it up as it was still perfectly easy to listen to. The story itself isn't amazing (not as gripping as Grisham's other novels) but I enjoyed it well enough.
