VERY INFORMATIVE
Revisado: 01-17-24
I’ve had natural hair for ages, but I didn’t do anything extra to it just wash and condition. Now I’m paying more attention to my hair because I’ve decided to grow it out, so I can have more versatility with styling. Well I’ve noticed my hair is so dry and it’s growing very very slow, I’ve read this happens as you get older. I began watching YouTube for solutions. I realized I should get rid of all of the harmful shampoos and conditioners and make my own. I didn’t know where to start… this is a good book for that. I learned a lot about what oils and herbs are good for your hair and your person. I’ve learned about pre-poos and how to make my own detanglers and hair masks. I’ve learned which herbs naturally darken your hair, so I can avoid hair dyes. The author listed a lot of DIY recipes that I have made and they worked out great. My hair is no longer dry and is growing at a much faster rate! If these subjects are something that interest you, I would check this book out. It was a fount of good information, recipes and remedies.

Just Wrong
Revisado: 02-26-19
I couldn’t get through this book because the protagonist states that she was raped 7 times by her husband- Minutes later she is enjoying sex with him and having orgasms. I was shocked because rape is not a subject to be taken lightly. It is a brutal and violent invasion that leaves behind emotional and physical scars that I don’t think the author is aware of. It was difficult for me to comprehend why she would put this in her book and treat it like it’s just a minor snag. I can’t imagine someone who was victimized in such a way reading the heroine’s reaction to being raped, It is insensitivity nearly to the point of cruelty. This book is not my idea of romance and the impropriety was staggering... I won’t be reading anything else by this author.

She alone has the magical power to prevent the spirits from destroying every man, woman, and child. Steadily Lost Momentum
Revisado: 06-07-18
I was wondering why this series wasn't more popular as I enjoyed the characters, the magical system and the world the author created. I was three quarters through the book when this question was answered. Everything became cliché from the problems she had at home, romantic interludes and unwarranted guilt over the decision to kill a villainous murderer. Then there's the ending, that even with a stretch of the imagination was unrealistic and improbable. The main enemy was done away with way too easy as well as some rivals. Okay, I'm gritting my teeth because in order to really explain how this book fell apart I would have to be more specific. Unfortunately, I cannot do that without major spoilers. I'll just add that this book may be okay for those who are just getting into this genre, but if you are an experienced reader of fantasy this book will seem elementary in the extreme.

They say love and hate are the same feelings experienced under different circumstances, and it's true. The man who comes to me in my dreams also haunts me in my nightmares. He is a brilliant lawyer. A skilled criminal. A beautiful liar. A bully and a savior, a monster and a lover. Ten years ago, he made me run away from the small town where we lived. Now, he came for me in New York, and he isn't leaving until he takes me with him.

I WISH I COULD GIVE THIS BOOK NEGATIVE FIVE STARS
Revisado: 07-02-17
Vicious was a rich self-loathing, entitled jerk that treated the heroine and other girls like vermin. He continuously humiliated her by calling her the help, yet she was in love with him because he was so handsome... PALEEZ! As a teenager she was a victim of sorts because his family was all powerful in town, and even though he oppressed her she had no real way of fighting back. He did and said some awful things to her, that showed he was selfish to the extreme and only thought about himself. I was waiting for her to grow up, gain some self respect. As a matter of fact, I continued reading only because I was waiting for her to finally give him a well-deserved piece of her mind. However, as an adult she was pitiful and weak and he continued to treat her like dirt. Since she had no self worth she didn't seem to know she deserved better. Vicious had some bad stuff happen in his childhood, and being in high-school I can see that dictating his life and actions to an extent. However, as an adult he should have gained wisdom, perspective and coping mechanisms. Instead he maintained the same self-serving, cruel and immature behavior throughout the book. I didn't sympathize with him because he spent his time and energy making another persons life a living hell. He never gave the poor girl a break, and I kept thinking, what makes him so different than his tormentor. I started to put this book down after a few chapters and I truly wished I had. This novel is in the top five worse books I've ever read category.

Historia
An atmospheric debut novel set on the gritty streets of Victorian London, Some Danger Involved introduces detective Cyrus Barker and his assistant, Thomas Llewelyn, as they work to solve the gruesome murder of a young scholar in London's Jewish ghetto. When the eccentric and enigmatic Barker takes the case, he must hire an assistant, and out of all who answer an ad for a position with "some danger involved", he chooses downtrodden Llewelyn, a gutsy young man with a murky past.

NOT TERRIBLE, BUT...
Revisado: 05-03-17
This one fell sort of the mark for me. The first few chapters introducing the two main characters were the best. The writing was crisp, and both characters were unique in there own way. Also the book showed glimpses of humor that was very promising. My knowledge of the Jewish community is limited so I appreciated the insight he imparted. However, half way through, I came to feel that it occupied too much of the book. The author seemed to become preoccupied with the topic and went off on long tangents. Then there was all the diatribe about religion. I purposely avoid books with regards to religion as my views on that subject are very personal. Some content on religion is okay but there was quite a bit, and my mind began to wander.
The mystery was half-baked at best. Don't bother trying to figure this one out , because there weren't any viable clues left for us readers. However, I did very much enjoy the developing relationship between Barker and Llewelyn, and if the mystery was tighter I feel this series would have had more potential. Some reviewers said the series got better and better with each book. With that in mind, I won't be opposed to trying another book in the future.

The Hero of the Book Is A Pedophile
Revisado: 03-24-16
I am writing this review for the readers who have sensibilities similar to my own.
This book starts off okay but once the protagonist meets the vampire, the book starts to turn into a straight romance novel. I am starting to get bored, however, I am only three hours into book one, and there is still time for action suspense and/or intrigue, so I am holding onto my patience to see what develops.
It all comes to an abrupt end for me when I find out in chapter nine that the vampire is 952 years old, and the heroine is 17. The vampire decided to asks her age because he realizes that she is young and innocent, and not yet a woman. However a few sentences later he is kissing her and his sexual desire for her has him fighting to stay in control, and then he mentions she is the most provocative woman he has ever known... REALLY!!! I have no respect for a 952 year old desperately falling for and lusting after a teenage girl. 952 is really old and that equals a lot of life experience. During that time he has to have known zillions of women, yet he loses his head over a 17 year old. I felt sickened and just kept thinking he is taking gross advantage of a child. Furthermore I feel the author by writing this book is condoning pedophilia. I don't see how the readers were able to continue the series after this discovery.

A LOT TO LOVE ABOUT THIS BOOK!
Revisado: 01-30-16
I really dug this book! Leigh Bardugo continues to impress with the nature and quality of her writing. There's a lot of fantasy out there with similar and recurring themes, but her books are something different all together. I particularly loved Inez and Kaz as they provided undertones of darkness that added an intangible quality. I was tempted to give this book five stars, but in the beginning it was a bit slow and I kept having to rewind as my attention waned. The other issue was some of the characters had been through so much, were incredibly shrewd, and had intellect so savvy you would be hard pressed to encounter in a forty year old. So, every time their ages were referred to it wasn't believable.
These things won't prevent me from highly recommending this book or waiting impatiently for the next installment. It kind of reminded me of Michael J. Sullivan's books, but I liked this one a bit better.

WHAT A NICE SURPRISE!
Revisado: 10-01-15
I have been having a hard time finding a book that didn't run from cliché to predictable, if you've had the same problem this is your book.
This book is, in a word AWESOME!!! It had a little bit of everything, a multi-layered plot, interesting characters, intrigue and mystery. It is delightfully well-written and so unique that I was sucked in right away. My hat's off to the author for her ability to produce a book that is good from start to finish. It won't have you gripping the edge of your seat but it is definitely a page turner, and I can't wait to find out what happens next! By the way I rate this book at four and a half stars!!!

The Spark Ebbed and Died...
Revisado: 09-29-15
The author is creative and the book is well-written. However, too much time was spent introducing us to the many characters, their history and the world they live in. While reading I often got excited by some of the concepts presented, but they remained unformed ideas and possibilities when the book ended.
At first the dragons came across as wise and noble, then a bit unconventional. That's not necessarily a bad thing, but in my opinion their natures were too human and too relaxed.
There were interesting points, but very little action at all and the pace of the book was too slow. Even though I wouldn't mind finding out what happens next I can't chance that book two might not start where book 1 left off, with a continuation of world and character development. Perhaps there will be the development of interesting concepts that hint at potential which won't be realized until book three. Oh did I forget to mention the slow pace?

Spenser earned his degree in the school of hard knocks, so he is ready when a Boston university hires him to recover a rare, stolen manuscript. He is hardly surprised that his only clue is a radical student with four bullets in his chest. The cops are ready to throw the book at the pretty blond coed whose prints are all over the murder weapon but Spenser knows there are no easy answers. UNEVOLVED!
Revisado: 09-25-15
This book was recommended to me as one of the best in its genre, unfortunately I disagree. The protagonist was a hard core drinker, smoker and solve everything himself type, who handled serious situations with humor.
First of all, he smoked, drank and splurged on junk food to the point of excess, yet he was described as having a powerfully built body that was all muscle... how, by magic? His wit was sort of amusing for the first half of the book, but then it was overplayed and became obnoxious. His bravery was underscored by how unrealistically easy he overcame every difficult situation he got into.
The characters in the book were less than one dimensional. One African American woman in the book referred to herself and her race as "colored," and "darkies." This book takes place in the 60's or 70's, whichever decade it was either during or right on the back of the civil rights movement. I'm sure no African American would have used such derogatory words to describe themselves or their race to a white male.
Women's rights were not commonplace during the time this book took place, but that doesn't mean there were no intelligent and positive women with values. As a woman, I don't enjoy a book where every female is unethical, stupid or needing a mans strong arms around them to make them feel better... what rubbish!
I didn't care about the fate of Spenser or any of the characters in this book, which was cliché and backwards, even given the time period. Don't get me wrong, I know this is fictional, but there is only so much you can overlook for the sake of entertainment.
