Fun, light cozy
Revisado: 04-02-24
The narrator took some getting used to. She did good voices of the other characters but she was always just so darned excited when reading the protagonist. I just wanted her to take a breath and relax a bit. Please note, i got this book for free, so I hung in until the end and was glad I did.

An Excellent example of a cozy mystery!
Revisado: 12-27-19
This really is everything you could hope for in a cozy mystery. It has likable characters dealing with real life situations who just happen to find themselves in totally improbably situations. It is good clean fun. It took me a bit to get used to the narrator. At first it seemed like she was whispering all the time. However by the time I had made it through the prequel, I had come to terms with her style and will probably forever equate her with the protagonist. (She does make really good cat noises.)

Great Fun!
Revisado: 11-03-19
I have really, really enjoyed this series. It is a lot of fun--and it just kept me hanging in there to find out what outrageous thing could possibly happen next. The combination of author and narrator really made this enjoyable! Yes, these books are long, but there is a huge amount of character development and back story! The narrator brings every character to life. I hope these two keep turning out books together!

Makes you wonder...
Revisado: 02-16-19
This book rambles a bit, but then I think that may be the point. The story slowly reveals itself one little bit of information at a time from a variety of view points. I have to admit there were times I wanted it to pick up a bit and get on with it. I suppose I would have liked a little bit more resolution in the end as well. On the other hand, I haven't stopped thinking about it yet and that is saying something. Literature really ought to make you think at least a little!
I have to say the author uses unique and interesting descriptive phrases. I really enjoyed her command of the language.

High adventure and dark mystery combine in a sparkling historical romance, by Jodi Taylor writing as Isabella Barclay from The Chronicles of St. Mary's. Bascombe, widowed and tied to an impoverished estate, has learned to ask little of life. With no hope of leaving, the years have passed her by. Lord Ryde, exiled abroad after a scandal, has returned to strip his estate and make a new start in America.

Good Fun!
Revisado: 09-20-18
Historical romance isn't always my first choice, but this turned out to be a little gem. There was just enough mystery and intrigue to catch my interest and a certain homage to more academically inclined literature that appealed to the writer in me. It was well-paced, quietly humorous and appropriately suspenseful. I do believe that the story itself was made all the more enjoyable by the adeptness of the narrator. Anna Bentinck turned a good book into a thoroughly rewarding listening experience and will be looking forward to finding more audio books performed by this artist.

Sad, Sad, Sad
Revisado: 01-11-17
I had high hopes for this book. It is a very interesting premise and the narration is adequate. However, I did not manage to finish it. It was just very, very sad. After three and a half hours of sadness, I decided that if it didn't start to look up soon, I was going to have to give up on it. I almost never quit a book, and I don't mind some sadness or challenges, etc, but I like to see some turn around, some growth, etc. I searched out a few more reviews and found out that that there were at least seven more hours of sadness and gave up. I almost feel like I need to apologize to the author and narrator, etc. for not finishing their work--but I just couldn't do it.

Historia
When Santa Claus is a cop, you better watch out. It’s not looking like a very merry Christmas for San Diego cop Nick Pappas. Suspended from his job, alienated from his family, and persecuted by the press, he’s sorely tempted to turn his gun on himself. Except for his first name, he couldn’t possibly have less in common with jolly old St. Nicholas. But when a local mall decides it needs a secret Santa to help collar some vicious muggers preying on its holiday shoppers, Nick’s persuaded to red-suit up so as to take the naughty punks down and avert a ho-ho homicide.

Relaxing, Uplifting story for the holiday season
Revisado: 12-27-16
I listened to this book a little at a time leading up to Christmas. It was a perfect book for the season for me. Another reviewer compared it to a Hallmark movie and I would have to say I agree, but in all of the best ways. It was sort of predictable, in a comforting way, it was very clean--not a single swear word that I remember, and it made me cry just a little in several parts. It was a perfect accompaniment to the last stressful bits of holiday preparation, and I didn't have to worry what folks would hear if they walked in unannounced.

I started this book three times, and just couldn't get into it. It might be a perfectly good book, but I didn't get far enough to tell. Obviously, neither the author or narrator has ever been to Idaho or Utah--thats for sure!
