Historia
2369: Shortly after Starfleet thwarts a Cardassian attack on a Federation star system, the Cardassian government orders an end to its fifty-year occupation of the planet Bajor. As a result, a newly installed Bajoran government requests immediate assistance from the Federation to mediate how the withdrawal will proceed and what recompense, if any, Bajorans are owed from their brutal oppressors. Captain Jean-Luc Picard is ordered by Starfleet Command to oversee these tense negotiations on Terok Nor, the massive Cardassian space station still orbiting Bajor.

I love Star Trek books, and this novel takes us back to the early days of DS9. For me, the nostalgia was the only thing that kept me listening. The novel is slow paced, and while the character development is great, the actual plot is lackluster.

basic beginning
Revisado: 09-01-24
The entire novel was about establishing a world, but the storyline meandered without feeling like it was getting anywhere until the very end. also borrows heavily from Jewish culture, I don't know if that is appropriation or intentional.... it will be interesting to see where this goes.

not what I had hoped
Revisado: 06-25-24
I still have 5 hours to go, but it's so slow and no real idea where we are going on this ride. Lots of offensive slurs in dialogue...don't really care if it makes it more authentic to the period. Just not good.

I was super excited about this novel, but it is slow. Seemingly going nowhere and the characters are so flat.

spoiler alert
Revisado: 09-24-22
I loved the development of Raffi and the story overall. but ...
I hated the way that Garak was portrayed. His character lacked the nuance I came to love from how he grew through the DS9 arc. older trek books held that thread. when we finally meet him in the present day, he is petulant and shallow... lacking the tongue in cheek and sass we have come to expect.

Historia
Oliver Park, a recovering addict from Indiana, finally has everything he ever wanted: sobriety and a loving, wealthy partner in Nathan, a prominent DC trauma surgeon. Despite their difference in age and disparate backgrounds, they've made a perfect life together. With everything to lose, Oliver shouldn't be visiting Haus, a gay bathhouse. But through the entrance he goes, and it's a line crossed. Inside, he follows a man into a private room, and it's the final line. Whatever happens next, Nathan can never know.

Terrible terrible terrible
Revisado: 01-01-22
Don't waste your time on this one...and don't believe the editor picks. The storyline languishes from one unbelievably poor choice to the next. Ends with a whimper instead of a whoop. Narrators do their best but the token gayness is a detractor. How did this make the recommendation list?!

It’s 1996, and Reacher is still in the army. In the morning they give him a medal, and in the afternoon they send him back to school. That night he’s off the grid. Out of sight, out of mind. Two other men are in the classroom—an FBI agent and a CIA analyst. Each is a first-rate operator, each is fresh off a big win, and each is wondering what the hell they are doing there. Then they find out: A Jihadist sleeper cell in Hamburg, Germany, has received an unexpected visitor—a Saudi courier, seeking safe haven while waiting to rendezvous with persons unknown.

I love Jack Reacher stories... this one was so hard to finish. plot was a reach, characters lacked depth, and was easy to get confused where the story was headed. when it finally got there, it was a whimper rather than roar.
