Breath of youth
Revisado: 03-26-21
Chasing Pentalouthes is the last installment in the Gift Saga written by Effie Kammenou. Although this book is the conclusion of the saga, it feels more like a standalone. Chasing Pentalouthes follows the emotional and personal growth of Evvie and her cousin Stella in the flashy new 2000s.
This time, the author gives us a youthful approach to these two characters; the reader gets to relate to their insecurities, challenges, friendships, love affairs, how society and family tend to pressure the younger ones, and the sensitive process of finding their calling in life.
As it is understood, there are two plots intertwined to keep in mind; both storylines have unexpected twits that can make you feel powerless and thankful, yes, at the same time.
The general plot (that at some point it combines) is heartwarming, empowered, and courageous for those who are still in the process of learning how to be what they are supposed to be and hopeful for a bright future.
For me, this book is worth reading a second time. The book is well-written, fast-paced, and shocking at times. I missed old characters and the time jumps. However, I still loved it. It feels fresh and well-placed in this new era. One of the main love interests is now one of my most recent additions to my book boyfriends list. I highly recommend this book, no matter if you haven't read the previous two. Don't miss it!

Historia
In 1961, five little girls moved into a suburban neighborhood and became inseparable, lifelong friends. They called themselves the Honey Hill Girls, named after the street on which they lived. As teenagers, they shared one another’s ambitions and dreams, secrets and heartaches. Now, more than 30 years later, they remain devoted and loyal, supporting each other through triumphs and sorrows. In Waiting for Aegina, the saga continues from the perspectives of Sophia and her friends as the story drifts back and forth in time, filling in the gaps as the women grow to adulthood.

The kind of love that lasts forever.
Revisado: 12-01-20
Once again, the marvelous writing of Effie Kammenou took my breath away and made me cry.
This book can be read as the second volume of the Gift Saga or a standalone since the reader can fully understand the storyline and all the characters involved.
As a reader, one can deeply emphasize with every single character. Throughout the years told and their adventures, we meet a group of five girls who are the core of the novel; The Honey Hill Girls. We get to know them, mourn with them, share their joys in life and, even experience their steamy and romantic relationships along the way.
In this novel, the most relevant aspect is friendship. No matter how many years have passed, their strong friendship stands amid the turbulent changes they face. Each of the five, in her particular way, achieve personal growth.
It's a book about life itself, love and, friendship. I really loved this book, it touch my heart in beautiful way. Can't wait to see what is new for the next generation.

Two bodies with one soul
Revisado: 07-06-20
Evanthia’s gift is more than a multigenerational love story. It’s a heart-warming and unforgettable journey that you take in the late fifties with two charming families. Since the beginning, the story captures your attention with plot twists, gripping romances and the incredible bond among its characters.
The storytelling goes from one family to another for almost a half-century in NYC and some parts of Greece. The author beautifully manages how the events occur with all the elements from Greek and American culture. This is an incredible introduction to the broad Greek culture; it gives us traditions, cuisine, celebrations, and a little bit of faith -in the Orthodox Church-.
Every chapter captured my attention in an unbelievable way. I need to know more and more about its characters and their lives. Evanthia’s gift is all I could ask for a family/romance/friendship novel. Love, death, loss, companionship, friendship, and faith of that kind is what I would like to live one day.
One of the most important things addressed was the fact that all the female characters are strong, independent, and empowered woman, who faced adversity with confidence and courage. A huge message to young women.
Now that I read it and listened to the audiobook, I highly recommend it to all kind of audience out there. Even though you are not a lover of romance, this one will bewitch you.
As once I thought: This could be real, these families could have existed at some point…
Well done, Dear Effie.
