A book should retain the language of its time. Is that not partly their purpose? At the same time, its doesn't really detract from the story that all racial slurs have been thoroughly blunted, while at the same time The Heart of Darkness isn't as dark if you censor its hate.

Fruit of the Gods for the warrior's spirit

The performance by Wyndham was superb. The story carefully constructed by Davis with his knowledge of the archeological and anthropological evidence from the time period to give us a more accurate understanding of the kind of world our ancestors faced. The Allfather's son is set upon the path to rid our world of the devoures set on ruling over the ashes. This tale isn't so different from our current era's fight against tyrannical governments.

The man does the different dialects of the characters so well, sometimes I forgot it was just him. Which, in turn, made the story all the more memorable.
