This Would Make a Great Miniseries or Movie!

Once upon a time, great books like Architects of Armageddon used to warrant great miniseries on television. The Winds of War, QBVII, Roots, Centennial, Shogun, Rich Man Poor Man, War and Remembrance, Lonesome Dove, just to name a few. The networks would cancel regular programming, and show an episode each night. Well, after listening to the audio book for Architects of Armageddon, I know that I've got a winner here. Lead character here is Kate Dawson, a broken detective who is struggling with alcohol abuse and trauma from PTSD. Following a grisly murder-suicide, she tracks the crime scene clues to an evil religious cult who want to start world war 3. No one believes her, so it's up to Kate to stop them herself. Plenty of suspense, romance, action, adventure, and a plot to reshape the balance of power. I loved every minute of the audio book, and want to see it made into a miniseries or movie. It's really that good!

Big Thumbs Up from Atlanta Sci-Fi Book Club!

I belong to a SF Book Club in Atlanta, and we read The Jovian Dilemma last month. All 14 members who read the book or listened to the audio book responded enthusiastically to it. The novel has a lot to say about climate change and the way in which humans consume more than our fair share of valuable resources. But there are also two other equally interesting themes as well: one dealing with first contact with the Jovians, and another one about forgiveness, sacrifice, redemption, and those very important characteristics that make us human. Author Flynn's speculations about Jupiter and the future of mankind in the Solar System as well as the Big Bang are also what make this science fiction story so thoroughly unique and remarkable. I'd say this is what SF is all about. A recent review here denigrates this novel as derivative and complains about Flynn's choice to use a styrofoam cup. There is NOTHING derivative here! Quite the contrary, the book is VERY ORIGINAL. I've never read anything quite like it before, and I've been reading SF for more than 60 years. Styrofoam is recyclable, and that is after all one of the themes of the story! Something that I have noticed over the years is the way crackpot fan boys have to tear down everything they don't understand. Maybe if they got their heads out of comic books and their parent's basements, they'd understand better. 14 members of my SF book club in Atlanta gave this book a BIG thumbs up. I concur, and so do many other reviewers. The Jovian Dilemma is a very rare find! Thanks Audible for making this into an audio book!

Tricks and Treats! Fun Book for a Night of Horror!

I listened to this audio book last night (Halloween), and enjoyed plenty of tricks and treats. With very few children trick-or-treating in my community, I settled in last night to listen to my new book. I wasn't disappointed. Right from the very beginning, there is a gruesome murder, worthy of Hitchcock, the first of several tasty treats.. Then the tricks started happening as author John Flynn led his Kate Dawson on a dangerous chase through the nightmarish underworld of BDSM in San Francisco. I've heard from a radio interview he gave that Flynn actually joined a BDSM club in Washington D.C. so that he could tell his story with realism and authority. Well, it seemed pretty real to me. The story became even more terrifying once the college teacher/psychologist entered the story, and began playing psychological games with Dawson's psyche. Part "Psycho" and part "Rear Window" is the best way for me to describe what follows in the story without giving much away. The final treat at the end of the story was the best of all. This was a fun book for a night like Halloween.
