5 stars... frankly just buying the book is a gift to the author. I am embarrassed that I enjoy these stories that are clearly the writer just enjoying himself. Please stop just having fun and buckle down to writing a REAL book.

I have WANTED to like Ms Mayers books... and they are fine really,... but with this she hits it out of the park. Characters I like spending time with, magic that makes sense, and a twist I didn't see coming. thank you

Reports to write, forms to fill, coffee to drink, leads to run down. Gus’s life was a tedium and boredom he’d grown comfortable with. One that he sought out after he’d come back from his tour of duty. A detective in the paranormal investigations department. A job he could work day in and day out in relative peace. One cold and forgotten cup of coffee at a time. It was an environment that made some sense to him. At least in comparison to civilian life where almost nothing did. On top of that, it gave him a chance to hide what he was from the rest of the world.

hmmmm... Swing Shift and there is a sexy thang on the cover? Is this a police procedure mystery or a book for swingers? Both.
These supernatural cops have a very complicated home life. My kids are polygamous so at least I can attest that this is a pretty healthy family... except for the whole "cutting" thing.
But I liked how REAL these fairy creature cops feel. Good writing, great narration.

Funny... but not to me.

It tries to be funny but sexual harassment and being gay are just not funny to me. I recognize that "these are the jokes" but I have no urge to laugh... it is simply banal. Too bad because I want to like the charactures and find out what happens to them but then they mention the hero's name... Har, Don. Suddenly I just don't care.

Love love love this book!

I liked the first book Orcanomics... even tho I often had the feeling I was missing some of the jokes. I mean I read a lot of fantasy sci/ fi but I know nothing of economics and have never played RPG. But the plot was truly character driven and I loved the characters... even the villains! Son of a Liche was even better! The characters evolve and grow, the plot thickens, and the book is funny without being silly (after all, everyone is allowed one quib).
Can't wait for the next one!
