Historia
Identity Economics bridges a critical gap in the social sciences. It brings identity and norms to economics. People’s notions of what is proper, and what is forbidden, and for whom, are fundamental to how hard they work, and how they learn, spend, and save. Thus people’s identity—their conception of who they are, and of who they choose to be—may be the most important factor affecting their economic lives.

Broadens your understanding of economics
Revisado: 09-21-23
What a great book. The variable of identity is very much underrepresented in the field of economics and gets some redemption here. A follow-up to this book a decade later would be very welcome.

Historia
Ever since Adam Smith, the central teaching of economics has been that free markets provide us with material well-being, as if by an invisible hand. In Phishing for Phools, Nobel Prize-winning economists George Akerlof and Robert Shiller deliver a fundamental challenge to this insight, arguing that markets harm as well as help us. As long as there is profit to be made, sellers will systematically exploit our psychological weaknesses and our ignorance through manipulation and deception.

Should be on every Economists reading list
Revisado: 09-12-23
Econ 101 readings tend to leave people with a certain image of the world (which has a lot of truth in it). Yet it misses some important nuances and downsides. This book is, therefore, a very nice read for everyone but especially economists. In a way, it allows you to see the discussion about (free) markets as a two-handed instead of one-handed one.

Historia
The world-renowned philosopher and author of the best-selling Justice explores the central question of our time: What has become of the common good? World-renowned philosopher Michael J. Sandel argues that to overcome the crises that are upending our world, we must rethink the attitudes toward success and failure that have accompanied globalization and rising inequality. Sandel shows the hubris a meritocracy generates among the winners and the harsh judgment it imposes on those left behind, and traces the dire consequences across a wide swath of American life.

Allows for some true reflection on life
Revisado: 06-30-23
Every now and then I stumble upon a book that truly enriches my life and allows me to think more critically and clearly. This is one of these books. Especially if you are interested in the never ending discussion about a meritocracy and equality of opportunity vs equality of outcome/result, you should read this book! It will almost certainly enrich your views and sharpen your understanding about one of the most oversimplified matters of our todays discourse.

Revisado: 06-06-23
Great listen as you would expect from Bernie Sanders. His ideas are truly what can excite people and are (hopefully) the future direction of where things are heading.
Only note from my site: If you have already listened a lot to Bernie Sanders, his speeches, or another book, then maybe this one isn't going to tell you something you don't already know. For e everyone else, especially Americans, please start listening now (and vote for a progressive candidate)

Historia
The lifeblood of any free society is persuasion: changing other people’s minds in order to change things. But America is suffering a crisis of faith in persuasion that is putting its democracy and the planet itself at risk. Anand Giridharadas takes us inside these movements and battles, seeking out the dissenters who continue to champion persuasion in an age of polarization. As the book’s subjects grapple with how to call out injustices while calling in those who don’t agree with them but just might one day, they point a way to healing, and changing, a fracturing country.

That one here is worth it!
Revisado: 02-02-23
There are a lot of good books by great authors out there. This here is one of them, but to me personally, its even more than that. I've rarely read a book that allowed me to reflect as much on my persuadability and way of talking to people. I learned that you don't win over people by "winning" a fact based argument. You probably push them further away from you. I'm surprised that I liked this book even more than Anand's "Winner Take All", now I'm off to reading one of his earlier books, "The True American". Cheers!

This is one of those great books that asks well-intentioned people to critically access their role in the system and their contribution to the problems we have. Listening to the author itself is a real pleasure too, and made me get his newest audiobook, "The Persuaders" right after this one.

Historia
In this sharp, masterfully argued book, Dani Rodrik, a leading critic from within, takes a close look at economics to examine when it falls short and when it works, to give a surprisingly upbeat account of the discipline. Drawing on the history of the field and his deep experience as a practitioner, Rodrik argues that economics can be a powerful tool that improves the world - but only when economists abandon universal theories and focus on getting the context right.

Historia
There is no better guide than Paul Krugman to basic economics, the ideas that animate much of our public policy. Likewise, there is no stronger foe of zombie economics, the misunderstandings that just won’t die. In Arguing with Zombies, Krugman tackles many of these misunderstandings, taking stock of where the United States has come from and where it’s headed in a series of concise, digestible chapters. Drawn mainly from his popular New York Times column, they cover a wide range of issues, organized thematically and framed in the context of a wider debate.

Covers a lot of ground really well!
Revisado: 04-24-22
If you decided to read this book you probably already know a thing or two about Paul Krugman. I have to say he doesn't disappoint in this book. The way he walks you through countless topics, covering everything and yet giving you some details that you likely didn't know before. Some might say its very partisan (and it probably is) but I think he justifies all of his stands. American politics is simply not balanced between Dems and GOP if you go by science and our current understanding of the world. So if you find yourself on the Democrats side, not much new here but still very good. If you are a Republican you might as well give this book a shot and test your own convictions. Not more to say so thanks for reading and have a good day.
