What was the plan here?
Revisado: 02-04-25
The narrator has gotten better by this point with some of the Japanese words which is a relief but not perfect. The action scenes are very cinematic. This book though feels a lot like the author had to cram 3 books into one book and what would have made a good climax was just half time. The plot twists are predictable. Like, the author wants you to guess the plot twist before it happens predictable. Not a bad trait in a YA novel but when they have been outright telling us the main character suspects it since book 1, it does not hit the same when they find out.

Copywright?

Isn't the cover of this audiobook clearly a copywrite infringement of Samurai Champloo? I mean Mugen's sword is clearly distinct.

This book is exactly what it has to be. This is what you get when you set out to write a YA novel about a foreigner living in Japan in the 17th century.
Listening to the audiobook largely ruined the experience of the book because the narrator clearly has no idea how to pronounce any Japanese terms even basic ones like “Kyoto” and “arigato”. Seriously, it’s really bad. Aside from that he is a perfectly competent reader, I think he did quite well on all other points, but when you combine that with a booked centered around thoroughly researched historic Japanese culture it is an ear sore.
