I Just Can't Finish It

I can't finish it. It sounds like they got a college professor to read a part meant for someone more street. The story was so slowly paced that I wasn't listening to it out of dread.

It is hard to buy the MC has a problem with the wealthy when the performer sounds like he was raised with a silver spoon in his mouth.

Additionally, I'm halfway through the story and have yet to care about a single character.

Conflict Underplayed

I wanted to like this story more. The problem was that some of the conflicts, such as the other woman bits, were underplayed. Had they been better developed in exchange for less time spent in the lead's head, it would have bumped up the tension and made the payoff more rewarding.

Who would have thought a book about chess could have me on the edge of my sleep and losing sleep to finish? This was the real beauty of the story.

Gotta Love a Good Sweater Vest

I'll likely listen to this one again. The male lead is realistic in all his stodginess with an underlying appreciation for humor and the unexpected. I love how the couple developed a deeper understanding of one another over time and how the lies subtly nudged them along a path to happiness. The one downfall, at least from the perspective of an older reader, was the lead's obsession with age might have been a bit overplayed. It made her sound more like a 40-something than a 30-something.

Cute Story

If you like gaming, romance, and humor, with a side of piracy and all-around geekiness, this book isn't bad. I probably won't remember much about it in a month, but for the hours spent listening to it, I was entertained.

Two Out of Five Hours

I had to force myself through the first three hours or so to get to the bit of the story that was actually compelling, only to end up in a cliffhanger situation. I didn't enjoy it well enough to continue to book two, so umm, yeah.

I like Teddy Hamilton as a narrator usually, so I can only blame the pacing of the story itself for the agony. In essence, it should have been a good read. In part I think there may have been an imbalance between plot and sex scenes for me. I love a good sex scene as much as the next person, but I need to be more invested in the characters, and that I wasn't until the last third of the book. Even then, my distaste for at least one of the characters only increased to the point I don't want him in my life anymore.

Couldn't finish it

The pacing is so slow. I made it through the first five hours and the story is barely off the ground. Way too much emphasis on the kids running around and not enough on the murder mystery.

Left Me Wanting More

If I break the story down to the bare bones, it is a good story. Solid plot. Exciting Hong Kong setting. Above-average character development. Decent narration, but the pacing was slow to the point I was ready for it to be over about 2/3 of the way through. The whole communication makes everything magically fall into place was too simple. The fatal flaw, though, was the ending. It felt rushed and dissatisfying.

Repetitve

Not as much attention was given to the action in comparison to the repetitive confessions of love and support. I get the guy was traumatized, but I didn't need him to keep telling me and the other characters as opposed to the actual confrontations with bad guys that was glazed over. And I kept feeling like I'd read this story many times before. The only real positive thing I can find to say is if this was an outline, the author at least touched on all the plot points. Honestly, I just finished listening to it, and I've already forgotten the characters except for Harlow.

Lovely Story of Growth and Romance

This was probably one of the best-balanced reads I've listened to in a long time. It is a true testament to following your own path and overcoming adversity can lead to freedom and fulfillment. The inclusion of K-pop is heavy enough to delight fans while being light enough that anyone can relate to the story of a normal woman falling for a famous man.
