Historia
In the winter of 1918, at the height of World War I, history's most lethal influenza virus erupted in an army camp in Kansas, moved east with American troops, then exploded, killing as many as 100 million people worldwide. It killed more people in 24 weeks than AIDS has killed in 24 years, more in a year than the Black Death killed in a century. But this was not the Middle Ages, and 1918 marked the first collision between modern science and epidemic disease.

I’ll worthwhile reading for today for 2020 the age of coronavirus
Revisado: 08-26-20
This work is an example of how we can learn from history of how the pandemic of 1918 was made worse by public policy and media reports that tended to them obscure the reality of the disease and the ways to cope with it—in clear and compelling language the author provides a cautionary tale every bit as relevant in 2020 as it was a century ago. you will be better informed about the present days virus by reading this work.

Historia
This audiobook traces Spain's development from prehistoric times to the present, focusing particularly on culture, society, politics, and personalities. It introduces listeners to key themes that have shaped Spain's history and culture, including its varied landscapes and climates; the impact of waves of diverse human migrations; the importance of its location as a bridge between the Atlantic and the Mediterranean and Europe and Africa; and religion, particularly militant Catholic Christianity and its centuries of conflict with Islam and Protestantism.

Underwhelmed
Revisado: 02-20-20
Audible SHOULD have a concise history of Spain. This one is more a tedious litany of dates, a conventional timeline history focusing on excessive detail without thoughtful big picture analysis. The lack of analytic perspective makes both text and voice rather monotonous without the texture and color this book deserves. I listened to the entire book because I am visiting Spain but this work could have been so much more.

Historia
Iceland, Greenland, Northern Norway, and the Faroe Islands lie on the edges of Western Europe, in an area long portrayed by travelers as remote and exotic - its nature harsh, its people reclusive. Since the middle of the 18th century, however, this marginalized region has gradually become part of modern Europe, a transformation that is narrated in Karen Oslund's Iceland Imagined. This cultural and environmental history sweeps across the dramatic North Atlantic landscape, exploring its unusual geography, saga narratives, language, culture, and politics, and analyzing its emergence as a distinctive and symbolic part of Europe.

Mostly for academics
Revisado: 06-29-18
While well researched this audible book really belongs more in the category of an academic work rather than a comprehensive guide for an individual wishing to learn more about the history of Iceland. It is rather technical and delivered without much voice inflection or emphasis on key themes that would improve its value to those interested in learning more about the history of this part of the world. In addition Audible books should know better than to leave out chapter numbers as the listener cannot assume voice inflection indicates the beginning of a new section.
