Historia
When six childhood friends get together for their annual girl's weekend at the beach in Port Aransas, none could have believed it would be for the very last time. Nina Evans had been saddled with organizing the weekend each year, pulling five of her oldest friends together for a few nights of fun and reminiscing, the one time a year they saw each other. Each year was much the same—laughter, dancing, and lots of drinking. This time was no different. That is, until Jones walked out of the dance club with a stranger.

formulaic, unsurprising

the ending was a let down- no clues could have pointed the protagonist toward the solution.

i like the stories that include seth and mort (i'll never get over the decision to replace adele with maureen). narrator not true to the characters -- especially mort, who is from NY not Maine.

narrator ruined it unfortunately
Revisado: 12-27-24
i'm only half way through and contemplating not finishing it. not true to the character of jessica fletcher at all. it's an early book in the series so maybe some of the character flaws can be forgiven -- but combined with narration that makes jessica sound like a completely different character from anything a fan of the show would expect - it's tough to get through.

Revisado: 10-25-24
i think merlington is the best narrator of the series; story was good not great/. and it still (all these books in!) bothers me that maureen has replaced adele and i'll never get over it hahah. i wish they would just switch back (like they did in one book). no one would complain! but overall story was good, love the cabot cove based stories generally.

Silly, fun Cozy
Revisado: 09-06-24
Silly / ridiculous but enjoyable listen. The narrator is good — though her German accent could use some work, half the time the German character sounds Indian and the other half of the time like a character in Hogan’s heroes. I didn’t like the daughter and wish the author did something different
with that character and storyline - but still. Overall I enjoyed the book and performance a lot.

Historia
Jessica and her friend, Dr. Seth Hazlitt, get the shock of their lives when they travel to a Florida retirement community for the funeral of their old friend, Portia Shelby, only to discover she has been murdered. Needless to say, America's most beloved sleuth soon finds herself with a Palm Beach potboiler on her hands. Who would want to kill her dear friend? One thing is certain: the beach umbrellas aren't the only shady things in the seemingly innocent community.

Good story - bad narration
Revisado: 09-01-24
Apart from the Maureen character (ugh- bring back Adele!!) the writing is good and true to the show. The narrator is unfamiliar with the show however— among the most annoying aspects being that she read Mort ( ex-NYPD) with a thick (and back woodsy) Maine accent. Wish I read it instead.

Historia
Jessica Fletcher's been invited to New York Fashion Week to see a show from Cabot Cove's own Xandr Ebon. But after two models die it's clear someone had fatal designs - and the police think it's Xandr. Jessica knows that her crime-solving instincts are going to be put to the test if she's to exonerate the designer. But the fashion industry's egos, conflicts of interest, spiteful accusations, and secrets mean she'll have to work especially hard to uncover the real killer. Or another death could happen in a New York minute.

I prefer Cabot cove based stories but like the show they can’t all happen there. I felt the weird ‘cop overly interested the turns jerk then turns nice again ‘ story line unnecessary. But overall fun listen. I like a Grady/Donna appearance too.

Jessica Fletcher takes up the cause of her good friend Barbara Babs Wirth after Babs's husband Hal suffers a fatal heart attack that Jessica has reason to believe was actually murder. Her suspicions are aroused by a sinister dating site Hal used while he and Babs were having marital issues - a site that might be complicit in somehow swindling him out of millions. Jessica's investigation reveals that Hal was far from the only victim, and when his former business partner is also killed, a deadly pattern emerges.

Does not capture the characters at all
Revisado: 08-30-24
I suppose if you were not a fan of the actual series, you would enjoy this book. As a standalone cozy mystery, it’s fine. But the author really do not capture the personality of Jessica Fletcher or the other principal characters, Mort, Metzger, and Seth Hazlett, nor their relationships. most of is the character of Jessica herself, who is portrayed in this book more as a meddlesome busybody who succeeds more by reckless accident than intellect and wit. She puts others in danger - which the ‘real’ Jessica would never do; she breaks the law and works to keep evidence out of the hands of the sheriff — again not in line with the real character, who, even when she ‘outsmarts’ law enforcement, never tries to undermine legitimate investigations or take matters entirely into her own hands (at least not thud far). I especially dislike the caustic and sarcastic toke of the conversations between the key characters, which does not reflect the genuine affection and respect they had for each other in the series.
The narrator also does not capture the characters very well- but she was stuck with the writing so I can’t blame her too much. That said, more familiarity with the series would have helped her avoid the sarcastic tone of the conversations and so forth. Other books (especially later on the series written by other authors) do a much better job.
