With unforgettable characters, a sweeping backdrop, and passionate storytelling, this is a fantasy debut to rival that of Robert Jordan. Filled with adventure and bloodshed, pageantry and piracy, mystery and menace, Assassin's Apprentice is the story of a royal house and the young man who is destined to chart its course through tempests of change.

I really tried
Revisado: 12-06-21
After 9 plus hours of non-meaningful character devolvement I am giving up. Nothing not one thing has happen nothing that has gone away from the same pattern over and over in this story. If there were a bit of something happening that made the main character form himself in some way that would be great. The only fun part of this tale so far is when he was the "New Kid" running with the town kids doing things and then nothing????? Very rarely do I post that I wasted a credit on something but this story was one of them.

Historia
After winning two wars against the Nemovorti, Minalan plans an expedition to The Lost Valley of Anghysbel, in the far north of his realm. It's there, in the caldera of a supervolcano at the edge of the tundra, he suspects many of the answers he so desperately needs might be hidden. The only problem is that thanks to the anti-magical properties of the jevolar, his spells won’t work; he’ll be without magic for the first time since he came into his Talent.

This Series is One of the Best Ever
Revisado: 11-27-21
As this story has developed it has simply gotten better. The first few books I personally loved how the Spell Monger was portrayed as a swashbuckling Hon Solo figure and had grown from there. It's the never give up and we'll thought out story that has made me a fan and all of these books will be listened to more than once.

Historia
Minalan gave up a promising career as a professional warmage to live the quiet life of a village spellmonger in the remote mountain valley of Boval. It was a peaceful, beautiful little fief, far from the dangerous feudal petty squabbles of the Five Duchies, on the world of Callidore. There were cows. Lots of cows. And cheese. For six months things went well: He found a quaint little shop, he befriended the local lord, the village folk loved him, he found a sharp young apprentice to help out, and, best yet, he met a comely young widow with the prettiest eyes.

A Different & Interesting Adventure
Revisado: 04-29-21
I read a lot of reviews on this series and wasn't sure how I would like it. It is written from a very interesting point of view which some will have an issue with. For me it is fun and different. As a fan of Jarlaxle, and let's face almost all men and some women want to be Jarlaxle, this is a bit of a taste of what a series dedicated to him would be like. For those of you who like prime and polished basic chivalry this is not for you. Anyway get into this series keep an open mind and have fun with it.

Historia
Neil Gaiman has long been inspired by ancient mythology in creating the fantastical realms of his fiction. Now he turns his attention back to the source, presenting a bravura rendition of the great northern tales. In Norse Mythology, Gaiman fashions primeval stories into a novelistic arc that begins with the genesis of the legendary nine worlds; delves into the exploits of the deities, dwarves, and giants; and culminates in Ragnarok, the twilight of the gods and the rebirth of a new time and people.

Better than I expected
Revisado: 01-18-21
I do not write many reviews and I have been skirting around this book for a couple of years as I bounce back and forth between genres. I finally took the plunge and I was pleasantly surprised how this book came together. I enjoyed the characters. They were fleshed out just about right not so much character development that the book dragged on but enough to take ahold of them and appreciate them as a whole. Bernhard's approach in this area was as solid as it comes getting you more attached to the characters as the book moved along which for me is very appealing. I have already started on the next book in the series to see how it stacks up and I am thinking it will be hard to compete with this part of the series.
The performance while good could have been better but I always have to compare them with my personal favorites Stephan Rudnicki and of course the venerable Victor Bevine. Still it stacks up there very well which is why I gave it 4 stars.
All in all if you are looking for a bit of a different twist on the Human, Elf..... world building you will like this book.

Mankind has lorded over the land of Illian for a thousand years, building on the ruins left by the elves, as if it were their birthright. A thousand years is a long time for an immortal race to see the truth of things, a truth that has remained unsaid for a millennium - elves are superior. They are faster, stronger, and connected to the magical realm in a way that man could never grasp. Illian should belong to them.

The Beginning to I Believe an Incredible Story
Revisado: 02-17-20
I was looking for a new author and story series to get into and I have found it!!. Mr Quaintrell builds characters and a world that draw you in and keep you engaged and wanting more. The performance Steven Brand gives on this series gives is what ties it all together to make this a hard one to stop listening to. I cannot wait to continue the story and I am sure this series will be a repeat listen to and the story will get better each time through.
