Highly recommend to anyone who wants an easy to understand political history lesson and a better understanding on what's going on in America, and the political world today. Very topical and timely. Loved this book.

Known for his network of conservative websites that draws millions of readers everyday, Andrew Breitbart has one main goal: to make sure the "liberally biased" major news outlets in this country cover all aspects of a story fairly. Breitbart is convinced that too many national stories are slanted by the news media in an unfair way. In Righteous Indignation, Breitbart talks about the key issues that Americans face, how he has aligned himself with the Tea Party, and how one needs to deal with the liberal news world head on.

I Feel Like I'm Late To The Party
Revisado: 12-20-17
Sadly, I didn't follow politics much until the last year and feel like I'm playing catch up. Also, sad that I didn't know Andrew Breitbart until he was no longer with us. This is a great book that I'll listen to more than once. A real inspiration.

Historia
Buried deep within the consciousness of Sergeant Raymond Shaw is the mechanism of an assassin, a time bomb ticking toward explosion, controlled by the delicate skill of its Communist masters. Shaw returns from the Korean War to an idolizing and unsuspecting country. What follows is at once a spy story, a love story, and a sobering, yet outrageously funny satire on demagoguery in American politics.

Better than the movie...
Revisado: 03-21-17
I loved this book and now have to pull out my copy of the movie so I can see how much they missed (don't recall the special relationship with Raymond and his Mother so much). I always liked the movie but sometimes find it confusing. The book was pretty easy to follow. Such a good story, especially for you MK Ultra junkies. Narration was good but it's the same reader who reads Stranger in a Strange Land and I had to listen a couple of times to get Valentine Smith out of my head. But all in all, well performed and I'll probably listen a third time.

Dolly Kyle met former president Clinton ("Billy", as she calls him) on a Hot Springs golf course when she was 11 and he was almost 13. It was colpo de fulmine (the thunderbolt) at first sight. Their friendship grew throughout high school and college. It became a decades-long affair that lasted despite marriages and politics - all the way to the threshold of the White House, when she became a political liability and he threatened to destroy her, as Hillary had done to so many of his other women over the years.

We dodged a bullet...
Revisado: 12-10-16
An teresting read that gave a little perspective into the presidency of Bill Clinton and what could have been Hilary Clinton"s (or actually was if you believe in the two for one presidency they preached). I'd say America dodged a bullet and has a better chance of recovering if they leave politics and never look back...

An interesting look behind the scenes
Revisado: 05-17-16
I'm really glad I took the time to read this book. I'm also glad Mr. Martinez took the time to write it. I found some of the steps tedious and sometimes hostile as a trial watcher and now fascinating when he explains why he did things certain ways. I still found it hard to believe the premeditation but not because I can't see it, more that it's hard to think that of a pretty young woman... but definitely could see it more through this book and only hope that oblivion takes the place of infamy and one day she'll be forgotten.

I'm a big fan . . .
Revisado: 05-05-16
What made the experience of listening to A Confederacy of Dunces the most enjoyable?
I loved "listening" to this book. I started by reading a hard copy that was loaned to me, then I bought an e-book for my Kindle so I didn't have to worry about folding back the pages, and though those were worth reading - once I got the audible version I was completely hooked. I think I've listened to this book 3-4 times already. I think one of the best parts of this reading was the narration - he gave life to each of the characters, almost like seeing it in a play with different performers. One of my favorite books and especially the audible version.
What did you like best about this story?
I love the characters. I love the richness of the location and the people. I also loved the back story about how this book came to be published. Kind of bittersweet but it was interesting enough that I even bought a couple of books about the publishing of this book and the man who wrote it and his mother who made sure it was read and published.
Have you listened to any of Barrett Whitener’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
I don't think I have - but I loved him. I probably should pay attention to who this was and look for other books that he narrates because it really was the narration of this book that has made me listen to it so many times and even try to get my BF to "read" it - he's still not sold - thinks "listening" to a book is dumb, but I know if he'd just give it a quick listen he'd be hooked too. I've bought him a copy for his Kindle, maybe one day he'll listen and see what I mean...
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
There were several moments in this book that moved me. Mostly I found myself laughing out loud at some of the ridiculous moments that Ignatius. I loved the scene in the bar with the bird - I laugh at that scene every time. I love the wienie cart scenes. I love the Miss Trixie project, I loved the car accident with Ignatius and his mother, and just too many to mention them all. But really, I think it's the narration that brings this book to life for me the most.
Any additional comments?
It's the narration of this book that has really helped me become a huge fan. I can shut my eyes and see the characters in my head and can tell the difference in who is talking by the way this one is read - and there are so many characters that it would be so easy to get lost but this is one of the best narrations that I've ever listened too. So glad too because I will probably listen to this book many more times. I've also found a cookbook based on this book and have bought that too - yep, I'm a big fan of Confederacy of Dunces. Can't believe it took me so long to discover it but so glad I did.

I liked the movie better...
Revisado: 05-05-16
Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?
I'm glad I listened to it but I can't say that I really enjoyed it. Maybe because I was such a fan of the movie and expected it to be more like the movie and it really wasn't at all (or not very much). So I kept finding myself comparing it to the movie, looking for timelines or anything that would give me a point of reference. I've seen the movie, I've seen a musical parody, and now I've read the book - and honestly, I liked the musical parody better than this book. Probably too bad I didn't read the book first - maybe it would have been better.
Would you ever listen to anything by Lauren Weisberger again?
Not really sure - but if I do I'll probably check to see if I've already see the movie - because if I have, I'd probably pass.
Was The Devil Wears Prada worth the listening time?
I'm glad I did just so I could say that I now have "read" the book and seen the movie, but really didn't care for the book.
Any additional comments?
Not a big fan of this book. I love the movie, own two copies of it even - but the book, not so much. Cudos to the script writer who rose above the book and made such a charming story with memorable characters. Didn't care for the book characters either.

I've already "read" this one twice...
Revisado: 05-05-16
Would you listen to Ruthless again? Why?
I'm already on my third time of listening to this book and have listened to it all the way through twice (pretty good since it was just released yesterday). It's an interesting "read" and well done so I find that I listen to it throughout the day, whether driving in my car or working at my desk.
What other book might you compare Ruthless to and why?
I've been reading a lot of the Scientology scandal books so I'd probably compare it to Church of Fear, Troublemaker, Inside Scientology, the few that I own and have listened to a few times already. I just find the topic interesting and keep wondering which of these books it's going to take to wake up the membership to change leaders...maybe this one, this one was pretty disturbing. But since they're pretty much kept from reading or researching things from the outside it's doubtful. But I would like to know if David Miscavige had a chance to read it and what his reaction was. THAT would probably make an interesting read too.
What does Harvey Betancourt bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
Actually, I liked the prelude read by Mr. Miscavige himself and probably could have listened to him read it too. As Mr. Betancourt takes over (right after the prelude) it's a little awkward but once he gets going I like his tone and he does make it more interesting. I also find that when I listen to the book, and I've been listening to several of them on this topic by now - I pick up on the similarities or same people from book to book and hearing their names or incidents is easier for me than just reading. Plus I don't always have time to sit down and give my undivided attention to a book but I have plenty of time walking around the mall, driving in my car, or even lying in bed, that I can listen to a book.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
Not really. I was a little horrified to hear that David Miscavige was having his own father trailed by private investigators and told them to let him die and not intervene on his behalf if they thought he was dying. But I've read so much of this by now that I'm not really surprised - but I was surprised that this was his own father. Just one more brick on the wall of truth about this cult.
Any additional comments?
One of the things I liked about this book was the story of Scientology as told from one of the old timers who still had some understanding of and belief in the value of some of the techniques. I don't doubt that somewhere sometime this may have been just one of the many metaphysical self-help techniques of that time, and they really did want to change the world and make it a better place - and there's nothing wrong with that - but the more I read about when David Miscavige took over, the more I realize that that's what went wrong - maybe not the techniques at all. But he definitely seems like a mad cult leader...and I keep wondering what it's going to take to make that known.

What do the lives of Lincoln, Helen Keller, Joan of Arc, and other historical figures have in common with Paula Poundstone? In the hands of this wryly observant and self-deprecating comedian, the answer is outrageously funny and unexpectedly touching. Poundstone compares her crazy life to theirs, as she holds forth on her children, her career, and the time in her life when it appeared she would lose them both.

Love Paula Poundstone and now Her Book...
Revisado: 03-22-16
I've always loved Paula Poundstone and recently had the privilege of seeing her perform in person, Avery fun evening with lots of laughs. Afterwards I had to buy her audio book and another recording of one of her performances and even had them signed. But then I remembered that I only could listen to a CD in my car and it was taking too long to finish her book, even in LA traffic so today I purchased the Audible version so I could listen all day on my phone and I just now finished. I fully intend to listen again and even finish the one in my car, but glad now that I have both and can listen anywhere I like. I loved her storytelling with the bits of history interspersed with her life stories, even I learned a thing or two and now feel like looking up some of those biographies. But mostly I just love her way of telling a story and this was no exception. This was a fun book that made me laugh and so glad I bought it. A definite must read for any PP fan or anyone who likes her comedic style of observing life. Thanks Paula!
