I really liked the story. I love scifi and/or fantasy so that is the reason I chose this one. I try to listen to books at work so I have something else to distract my mind and entertain myself. It was interesting enough to keep listening... but not enough to finish it on the weekend. I also found myself very uncomfortable during the "sex scenes" because of the terminology. The author uses words that wouldn't be acceptable in "public" - I'm not a prude but if you find a word distasteful then you find the "act" distasteful. There are other ways to say the same thing and then your brain fills in the details.

That being said, it was still a good book to pass the time with. The narrator, Emily Foster, is awesome.

This episode featured at least 5 different ones. And in order to get to know each one, a lot of time was spent giving backstory or details on each character. I must admit, I found this part a little bit annoying.

I kept thinking to myself... Let's get on with it already!

I also didn't jive with the narrator. There's just something about his voice or the cadence I just don't like.

I'm usually a big fan of Dean Koontz so I find it disappointing that I'm not digging this series the way I should be.

Walls by SF Covell is a thrilling sci-fi novel that will keep readers on the edge of their seats from the very first page. The story takes place in a Los Angeles suburb where a mysterious wall of energy suddenly appears, trapping the residents and killing anyone who comes in contact with it. The novel follows the efforts of the diverse group of neighbors as they come together to survive and solve the mystery of the walls.

The author's unique writing style, reminiscent of a screenplay, is quick and easy to read. The characters are refreshingly nuanced, animated, and multilayered, offering a savvy social examination of cultural and ethnic diversity in the City of Angels. There was a wonderful mix of characters who used their collective ingenuity and skillful collaboration to face the problem at hand.

The pacing of Walls is stellar, with fast-clipped dialogue, clever quips, and intriguingly suspenseful sequences that keep the plot and character development brisk, entertaining, and succinct.

While the book does not provide much information about the walls' mechanism or their overall purpose, the ending is satisfying and sets the stage for the next installment. The presence of aliens only occurs at the end of the book, but it offers an interesting twist and leaves the reader with questions and anticipation for what's to come.

Overall, Walls is a well-written, easy-to-listen to, and uncomplicated sci-fi novel that offers a nice reprieve from the overwhelming cynicism of our times, reminding us that we are always better off when working together on the same team.

As someone who tries to review everything I consume, I often find it hard to do so without spoiling the story.

This episode, upset me to my core, on so many levels… as someone who has raised an autistic child. It filled me with hate and contempt, and then rewarded me with sweet revenge.

As a writer, I have to say that Koontz has always been a favorite of mine because of his ability to describe things in ways nobody else would. Such as… “The sky found its blue again.”

This one was better than the first, kept me engaged, and listening. I’m looking forward to the next!

I don’t know what I was expecting because I have never listened to “episodes” before but I’m a big fan of Dean Koontz. For some reason, it was a little hard for me to get into because of the narrator, but I stuck with it and was pleasantly surprised.

This is basically a tale of revenge and “doing what is best” for everyone. I don’t know why, but I the ending isn’t what I expected at all. Yes, revenge was had, but it was obtained in an unexpected way.

I recommend episode one to anyone who loves Dean Koontz.

I chose this one because I wanted to listen to a romance (not erotica) while I was at work. So, I was a little bit disappointed when “erotica” interrupted my listening. At the beginning, we are supposed to be back in the 1800s but the dialogue didn’t seem to match that day and age, but I pushed past that and listened on.

The book then enters present day and immediately refers to the main character as a witch over and over without explaining why first. Needless to say, I was confused, but I pressed on because it was engaging enough to be interesting. The constant bickering and fighting of the characters in it annoyed the crap out of me. I know why it was in there, but it just seemed to be too much.

The “romance” wasn’t a slow build over time. The first time they communicate she lets him fondle her. And… she uses the word fondle. “The reason you’re able to fondle me…” which is just weird.

Much of the book seemed like an impromptu education about her powers and the elements around them. It confused me that such a “powerful” woman would stay with such an awful man… saying that she didn’t have a choice because he at least provided the extra money she needed. It seemed a woman like her could make money just banishing spirits.

I feel like this book could have been really great but it missed a few opportunities to expand on. The narrator did well with the voices of the women, the witch, and perhaps the demon, but the men all sounded like “slow” brutes. Overall, it’s okay for a distraction.

Today's world only with fantastical creatures

I chose this audible because I love fantasy as much as I love scifi. This book was very hard for me to get into because of the big action-packed blockbuster battles that seemed to go on and on. Something like that would look fantastic on the big screen but I found listening to it quite hard.

This seems to be set in today’s day and age but with Orcs, Vampires, mages, seers, etc. Logan is a Seer but apparently that doesn’t mean he sees the future; he just can read the auras of other magical beings. In present day, Logan and his sidekick Sam are mercenaries who do jobs for hire.

I found the “back story” with Logan and the Institution more interesting than the rest of it. A prequel about just that would be awesome.

I also couldn’t seem to determine what the point or goal of the whole story was. If the goal was revenge, he sure didn’t get it.

There also seemed to be a fundamental lack of romance. I find almost every story has SOME romance. Someone that feels some sort away about someone else. But “feelings” didn’t seem like a big part of this.

The narrator is very versatile with a lot of accents and different male voices for dialogue but his “usual” narrator voice was hard for me to like. But I’m probably being too picky.

Space & Stuff “out there” with absurdity

I chose to listen to this audible because it is a scifi comedy and seemed like it would be a good fit for me. This first-person narrative seemed a little weird to me because it was mixed with past tense in some places and then announced who was speaking in other places, which reminded me of how screenplays are usually written. Social classes are divided, women aren’t treated as having a the same worth as a man, the indigenous populous of this planet are treated like animals with low IQs, and the leadership is corrupt. So, basically what humans do to each other on a daily bases and the author attempts to make this all humorous… which I found hard to laugh at. Perhaps it’s just not my type of humor? Probably.

It's “out there” with absurdity and very vulgar so it you like that sort of thing, this is definitely for you.
The author writes in his bio “ I write utter nonsense and you are a disgrace for reading it, the hell is wrong with you?” So, yeah, what do you expect? LOL.

Laura Roberts (the narrator) did a great job with all the different characters. Top notch voice actor.
