Historia
We were fighting on the wrong side of a war we couldn't win. And that was the good news. The Ruhar hit us on Columbus Day. There we were, innocently drifting along the cosmos on our little blue marble, like the native Americans in 1492. Over the horizon come ships of a technologically advanced, aggressive culture, and BAM! There go the good old days, when humans only got killed by each other. So, Columbus Day. It fits. When the morning sky twinkled again, this time with Kristang starships jumping in to hammer the Ruhar, we thought we were saved.

Fun
Revisado: 04-02-25
Familiar story, nothing groundbreaking—but the characters were amusing and made it an easy, entertaining listen.

Historia
The lives of the Barretts, a normal suburban New England family, are torn apart when 14-year-old Marjorie begins to display signs of acute schizophrenia. To her parents' despair, the doctors are unable to stop Marjorie's descent into madness. Father Wanderly suggests an exorcism; he believes the vulnerable teenager is the victim of demonic possession.

Captivating and Vivid storytelling
Revisado: 01-24-25
What stood out most: The story's ability to create vivid visuals and maintain an engaging narrative was impressive. However, the author leaned into common tropes and typical traits found in the majority of books. That said, with the poor quality of books today, This one is still definitely worth the read.

Historia
Suburbia. Shady, tree-lined streets; well-tended lawns; and cozy homes. A nice, quiet place to grow up. Unless you are teenage Meg or her crippled sister, Susan. On a dead-end street, in the dark, damp basement of the Chandler house, Meg and Susan are left captive to the savage whims and rages of a distant aunt who is rapidly descending into madness. It is a madness that infects all three of her sons and finally the entire neighborhood. Only one troubled boy stands hesitantly between Meg and Susan and their cruel, torturous deaths.

Historia
America is in the thrall of a full-scale socioeconomic breakdown. The stock market plummets, hyperinflation destroys the value of the dollar, and the population, unprepared for hardship, panics. Practically overnight, the high technology infrastructure and chains of supply collapse and wholesale rioting and looting grip every city. Law enforcement, transportation, electricity, fuel, and medical supplies are all in the past now, as the country staggers beneath its own weight.

A Narrator’s Redemption of an Average Tale
Revisado: 11-22-24
The book itself was okay, with a story that felt fairly average. However, the narrator’s exceptional performance truly elevated the overall experience. Thanks to the narrator’s talent, I’d rate the overall performance 4 stars.

Historia
Alan and Kate Marlowe are a typical, loving, middle-class couple, with four small children. But they wish they had just one more, a beautiful baby daughter. So when a strange young woman abandons her infant at their house, they view it as a blessing - a godsend - and adopt little Bonnie as their own. But not long after Bonnie’s arrival, terrible things begin to happen to the Marlowes, starting with the death of their son Matthew. As the tragedies mount, Alan suspects that Bonnie is somehow responsible. Is he losing his grip on sanity?

Flow of story.
Revisado: 10-17-24
The narrator generally does a great job, but there are issues with the dynamics. In the Valley scenes, the volume fluctuates too much—it's at a moderate level in Midtown, but then suddenly drops to where it's barely audible, and then gets too loud unexpectedly. Other than that, the narration is solid.

2 to 3 hours in I had to stop.
Revisado: 11-06-23
I couldn't get through this book; it was so frustrating. While the narrator was tolerable, the storyline itself was incredibly annoying. I ended up ditching it in favor of diving into a psychology textbook.
