Historia
In physicist Stephen Hawking's brilliant opus, A Brief History of Time, he presented us with a bold new look at our universe, how it began, and how our old views of physics and tired theories about the creation of the universe were no longer relevant. In other words, Hawking gave us a new look at our world, our universe, and ourselves. Now, Hawking presents an even more comprehensive look at our universe, its creation, and how we see ourselves within it.

learn some new stuff
Revisado: 10-03-24
this book had some very exciting moments for me, but also was a bit heady. learning that the sun spins was one of the coolest things I've learned ever as was the concept that if the universe expanded slightly too fast it would just get thrown in the chaos and if it was slightly too slow it would all collapse. like The narrator's voice

But the ritual for celebrating Wombie's deathday is no easy task: It requires a voodoo dagger, a magic ring, and an enchanted cauldron, and if Tom and his undead friends don't perform the ritual in time, Wombie will turn to dust.

Nigel needs to escape from military school. Who can blame him? After all, the king just declared war on the gorks, and he's pretty sure his latrine-digging skills aren't going to be much good on the front lines.

Guy Montag is a fireman. In his world, where television rules and literature is on the brink of extinction, firemen start fires rather than put them out. His job is to destroy the most illegal of commodities, the printed book, along with the houses in which they are hidden. Montag never questions the destruction and ruin his actions produce, returning each day to his bland life and wife, Mildred, who spends all day with her television "family."

Everything to Think About and Much to Remember
Revisado: 04-16-22
As a society we are hungry, starving for connection and yet we feed ourselves day by day on nothing but shadow, and steam, fleeting scraps of insignificance.
This profound book is not only riveting, adrenaline pumping, but prophetic of what will happen to society if we continue the trend of disconnected, illusory, social media and constant need for noise and distracting entertainment from what actually matters. the people, right next to you that you never see.

Amazon won't let you review truthfully anymore
Revisado: 04-15-22
Audible deleted my review because it was honest about the content of this book. sad that they won't let people express opinions any more. Parents be ware this book has tons of content inappropriate for children. Songs on phallic body parts, and walking away from the apparent theme of the book (spies) to confusedly focus on transgender experience.
Scotts books have so much potential but now are all ruined by needless propaganda.

Historia
Somewhere out beyond the edge of the universe there is a library that contains an infinite number of books, each one the story of another reality. One tells the story of your life as it is, along with another book for the other life you could have lived if you had made a different choice at any point in your life. While we all wonder how our lives might have been, what if you had the chance to go to the library and see for yourself? Would any of these other lives truly be better? In The Midnight Library, Nora Seed finds herself faced with this decision.

Helped Me Through a funk
Revisado: 04-03-22
I thoroughly enjoyed this book, not only for the interesting story and narrator, but because I finally felt like someone understands what I've been going through in my life.
This book is about some heavy subjects, depression and regrets, but it also is about hope. I've been struggling with some major depression for the last two decades of my life, and so many things were relatable about wishing my life could have followed "the happy path" but this book helped me to appreciate and see how my actual life was actually really good.
Just a heads up there is many f-words in this if you are avoiding profanity. It is contextually appropriate and not aggregous.

Historia
Booker T. Washington fought his way out of slavery to become an educator, statesman, political shaper, and proponent of the "do-it-yourself" idea. In his autobiography, he describes his early life as a slave on a Virginia plantation, his steady rise during the Civil War, his struggle for education, his schooling at the Hampton Institute, and his years as founder and president of the Tuskegee Institute in Alabama, which was devoted to helping minorities learn useful, marketable skills.

the life of Booker t Washington has inspired me to work harder, not only to further the goals I have but to make a bigger difference in the world for good. I strongly believe that if the principles and attitude eagerly taught and embodied by Booker t Washington were adopted by our nation as a whole, our country would heal racially nearly overnight. this is one of my favorite reads of my entire life

insightful

I think one of the things that I really love about this workshop presentation is it helps to bring what could be kind of obscure or emotional and bring it into much more objectionable and discussable context. my biggest takeaway is the idea of just being clear about who you are and what you're looking for and being okay with that.

Historia
In this “vital, necessary, and beautiful book” (Michael Eric Dyson), antiracist educator Robin DiAngelo deftly illuminates the phenomenon of white fragility and “allows us to understand racism as a practice not restricted to 'bad people'" (Claudia Rankine). Referring to the defensive moves white people make when challenged racially, white fragility is characterized by emotions such as anger, fear, and guilt and by behaviors including argumentation and silence. These behaviors, in turn, function to reinstate white racial equilibrium and prevent meaningful cross-racial dialogue.

Cancer in Writing
Revisado: 09-06-21
Amazon has deleted my review for the third time. One of the most racist books ever written by an unaware virtue signaler who doesn't give people the room to make changes and grow while she gives her self an entire chapter of empathy for her mistakes. Chalk full of logical inconsistencies, illusive absolutes. The entirety of the usefulness of this book can be summarized in one sentence: someone may have a different life experience than I because of their skin color.
