Historia
The best-selling author of Voodoo Dreams focuses on two women who loved the great abolitionist Frederick Douglass. Anna, a free woman of color, was his rescuer, his loving wife and mother to his children. Ottilie Assing, a white German woman, became his intellectual soul mate and mistress. At times, they all lived under the same roof.

Historia
When Blanche White moved north to Boston, she believed it would be a better place to raise her kids, especially after she got them into an elite private school. But now her children are becoming elitist and judgmental, acquiring more attitude than education. So when she and her kids are invited to Amber Cove, an exclusive resort in Maine for wealthy blacks, Blanche jumps at the chance to see how the other half lives and maybe stop her kids turning into people she doesn't want to know.

Thoughtful portrayal of racial inequity among blacks
Revisado: 06-06-20
This book is entertaining and an educational story involving intrigue and inequity. I started listening to it before the nation’s recent civil unrest and have now listened twice. Highly recommended by this white middle class woman.

Engaging story, but...
Revisado: 08-12-18
The plot was too predictable but it’s a good story with engaging characters. The readers were wonderful and the accents of the non Americans were truly amazing. I like that there were short chapters focused on one important concept after another. Chapter 128 should be read (or heard) by every American.
