Historia
My name is Vinna, and I've been keeping a lot of secrets. You would too if you'd experienced some of the weird shit I have: red-eyed monsters chasing me, markings on my body appearing out of nowhere, a strange power that crackles colorfully over my skin from time to time, and don't get me started on the weapons I can conjure up almost out of nowhere.

Do you enjoy cheesy reverse harem smut? Then this is your book! No shame, I’ve got poor taste too - but this is not my jam.

Painful caricatures do dumb things continuously
Revisado: 11-07-21
Repetitive, goes nowhere, story populated with caricatures that also go nowhere and never grow. I think what finally made me put it down is the supposedly “smart” people setting themselves to be undermined by the “dumb” over and over again. Sigh.
I did not subject myself to the final third. Maybe it improves.

Not just horrible but full of rape and sex mixed in the violence
Revisado: 05-28-21
Poorly written one dimensional character might have been ok: but to make them inconsistent and fixated on sex mixed with violence was just too much. Sheesh.
I’m not sure if this is intended to be a fantasy novel with a strong female lead or a light BDSM romance with a ditzy lead. It’s all over the place. What ever the author tried for they missed — unless it’s “all of the above”.

Historia
From the "Trail of Tears" to Wounded Knee and Little Bighorn, the narrative of American history is incomplete without the inclusion of the Native Americans that lived on the continent before European settlers arrived in the 16th and 17th centuries. Since the first contact between natives and settlers, tribes like the Sioux, Cherokee, and Navajo have both fascinated and perplexed outsiders with their history, language, and culture.

Absolutely horrible
Revisado: 09-02-18
This did a serious injustice to the people the book is about. The publisher should be ashamed.
It was poorly edited repetitive snippets from encyclopedia articles composed by virtual 5th graders with a literally lazy editor. 1/10 do NOT recommend.

Too bad the protagonist is an idiot
Revisado: 07-24-16
I could get past the implausibility and am generally positive about "coming of age" stories and all that.
The real problem here is that the training and description of the main character as an accomplished thief, knife fighter and general bad ass in a nasty part of the world didn't describe the actual character we saw basically fail at every thing he tried in the entire novel.

Story? What story?
Revisado: 05-04-16
What would have made The Sin Eater's Daughter better?
A plot
Has The Sin Eater's Daughter turned you off from other books in this genre?
Oh no, just other books by this author.
Did the narration match the pace of the story?
Fine fine, the narrator did a fine job with a crummy assignment.
What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?
Stab a sharp stick in the eye disappointment.
Any additional comments?
At the point where I gave up this "story" as nothing but a mopey tale of a helpless and useless protagonist with zero initiative that lets herself be literally locked into a room to do nothing but fall in love with the only two other partially fleshed out caricatures in the 'story'. It is a waste of paper/audio/time and I highly recommend running the other direction.

Needs characters and depth
Revisado: 02-11-16
The author bit off an ambitious story of political intrigue and totally failed. I suspect because there was only the cardboard cutouts of the characters from the previous story telling the reader about untold numerous other cardboard cutouts that are named at best but certainly never given a backstory or motive.
The stories of the characters that actually do anything are left untold and summarized only in perfunctory military reports.
Listening to this is a waste of time. Save your credit.

Life as a ship's boy aboard HMS Dolphin is a dream come true for Jacky Faber. Gone are the days of scavenging for food and fighting for survival on the streets of 18th-century London. Instead, Jacky is becoming a skilled and respected sailor as the crew pursues pirates on the high seas. There's only one problem: Jacky is a girl. Promising premise destroyed by a bad story
Revisado: 09-30-14
Any additional comments?
The story is moving along nicely until Jackie gets successfully settled in as a ship boy. And then it becomes a sappy, horrible, poke a shiv in my ears, tale of a whiny little girl that wants to sew, and cook, and fall in love and have a sweet wedding and wear dresses. It was amazingly frustrating how the main character, the only developed character, turns out to fall apart and become a helpless "girl" at any sign of trouble. The author proceeds to ignore and trivialize anything interesting about pirates or the ship from then on and instead spends useless hours going on and on about how Jackie'd rather just be a "lady" and generally avoids furthering the plot or developing any other characters.
Honestly. Don't bother.
