Historia
As fall paints the Pennsylvania countryside in flaming colors, Sylvia Bergstrom Compson is contemplating the future of her beloved Elm Creek Quilts. The Elm Creek Quilt Camp remains the most popular quilter’s retreat in the country, but unexpected financial difficulties have beset them and the Bergstrom family’s stately nineteenth-century manor. Now in her eighth decade, Sylvia is determined to maintain her family’s legacy, but she needs new resources—financial and emotional.

Return to Quilt Camp
Revisado: 04-23-25
I'm glad the author has taken us back to Elm Creek. I read the series a while ago and Mrs. Lincoln's Dressmaker, but I most enjoyed stories about the quilt makers, Sylvia and her staff. Christina Moore's narration brings the characters to life.

Historia
The legendary annihilation in 1883 of the volcano-island of Krakatoa - the name has since become a byword for a cataclysmic disaster - was followed by an immense tsunami that killed nearly 40,000 people. Beyond the purely physical horrors of an event that has only very recently been properly understood, the eruption changed the world in more ways than could possibly be imagined. Dust swirled round die planet for years, causing temperatures to plummet and sunsets to turn vivid with lurid and unsettling displays of light.

Historia
Turning the other cheek does not mean standing by while the enemies of God dismantle Christian civilization and brainwash our children. Decrying the cowardice that masquerades as meekness, Eric Metaxas summons the Church to battle. An attenuated and unbiblical “faith” based on what Bonhoeffer called “cheap grace” has sapped the spiritual vitality of millions of Americans. Paying lip service to an insipid “evangelism,” they shrink from combating the evils of our time. Metaxas refutes the pernicious lie that fighting evil politicizes Christianity.

Liked all of it. I ordered the hard copy for my Bible Study group who refrain from being "political."

This sprawling and often brutal novel, set in the rich farmlands of California's Salinas Valley, follows the intertwined destinies of two families - the Trasks and the Hamiltons - whose generations helplessly reenact the fall of Adam and Eve and the poisonous rivalry of Cain and Abel.

I was skeptical when a friend recommended Griffiths' book, but I found the first two real "page turners," Listening to them reminds me of Foyles'War, which I loved watching. I just downloaded the third book in the series.

Historia
We the Living portrays the impact of the Russian Revolution on three people who demand the right to live their own lives. At its center is a girl whose passionate love is her fortress against the cruelty and oppression of a totalitarian state. Rand said of this book: "It is as near to an autobiography as I will ever write."

Struggled to Finish
Revisado: 11-11-22
I read We the Living as a tribute to Ayn Rand as I fear America is headed toward collectivism.
I struggled with the narrator's reading of the male voices. Rand's writing of Atlas Shrugged and The Fountainhead is so much better.

Offers Encouragement
Revisado: 10-23-22
My husband and I were asked to read Stanley's book for our church's seminary class on "Preaching and Teaching." We joined the church to learn to share scripture in answer to the evil around us. We may never preach or teach; however, we now have a process to deliver even a short message from God's Word when the opportunity is presented.

Historia
Bud Threadgoode grew up in the bustling little railroad town of Whistle Stop with his mother, Ruth, church-going and proper, and his Aunt Idgie, the fun-loving hell-raiser. Together they ran the town's popular Whistle Stop Cafe, known far and wide for its fun and famous fried green tomatoes. And as Bud often said of his childhood to his daughter, Ruthie, "How lucky can you get?"

Historia
As a Japanese-American fisherman stands trial for murder on an island in Puget Sound, snow blankets the countryside. The whiteness covers the courthouse, but it cannot conceal the memories at work inside: the internment of Japanese Americans during World War II, an unrequited love, and the ghosts of racism that still haunt the islanders. First novels rarely attract as much attention as Snow Falling on Cedars. Remaining on best seller lists for months, it has cast a spell on listeners across the country.

Hard to stop listening to this story. George Giudall is the best of all narrators. I chose this book because he is the narrator and am so glad I did. A good history lesson for those who missed WWII but also a great murder mystery.
