I kept wading through the endless narrative waiting for something interesting to happen. It never did. Now I see that this is only the first of 4 books in the series which explains why the ending was so unsatisfactory. I don't think that I can bring myself to tackle the rest of the series. I just don't really care what happens to the main characters.

I did enjoy the story line and Marguerite Gavin is one of my favorite narrators. I do hope there will be more than 2 books in the series.

Lap tops, Internet, Wifi in 1993???
Revisado: 03-31-13
While I found the story interesting and the setting irresistible, I lived in Paris for 3 years just before the time in the story so the places were very familiar, I couldn't get past the anachronism of the references to the computer uses by the main characters. In 1993 government and private concerns were only beginning to store files on computer databases that was stored on mainframe computers not accessible from outside their direct networks. The "internet" such as it was only existed for the military and some educational institutions. Even given that Aimee and her partner were "computer experts" most of the computer research and communications would not have been possible at that time. Laptops were only equipped with software for basic word processing, appointment calendar, telephone/address book, and calculator. Sorry but I did enjoy the story line but every time computer use came up, and it was crucial to the resolution of the plot, it made me crazy.

OK story but awful recording
Revisado: 01-27-13
What would have made Sarah Woods Mystery Series: Books 1-3 better?
The characters are 2 dimensional and not very interesting. I am not sure what I expected of a series about a masage therapist turned dective.
What was most disappointing about Jennifer L. Jennings’s story?
I did listen to the whole thing hoping that it would get better. It didn't. It was a waste of my time and money
How could the performance have been better?
The recording sounded like it was done at the bottom of a well, really tinny and hollow sounding. I thought at first it was my speakers so tried listening on headphones and other speakers still just as bad.
The narrator's nasal voice also did not help. Since the story is told in the first person supposedly in the voice of the 40 year old main charecter the reader should have been someone with a more mature sounding voice. Erin Coleman sounds like someone who is barely 20.
You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?
The story was OK maybe something for light reading at the beach.

Historia
Alexander McCall Smith’s No. 1 Ladies’ Detective Agency series has become a worldwide phenomenon thanks to the appeal of endearing protagonist Precious Ramotswe and the author’s charmingly quirky prose. In this 13th installment, Mma Ramotswe’s attention is focused on a pesky disciplinary problem at her adopted daughter’s school - while Grace Makutsi adjusts to wedded bliss and the famed Clovis Andersen arrives in Botswana looking for more than bush tea.

This series + this narrater = great entertainment
Revisado: 04-12-12
This series is best enjoyed with a really good narrator and Lisette Lecat is that. Her reading brings the characters to life. Since there are many unfamiliar places and names in Botswana hearing them pronounced correctly contributes to the enjoyment of these books. The No. 1 Ladies Detective Agency series is not "serious literature" but it is great fun and very entertaining. The characters are engaging and the insight into the day to day lives of "ordinary" people in Botswana is interesting. This book is the latest in the series and does not disappoint. I would recommend starting to listen to the series from the beginning since there are many references to events and people from the earlier books, so knowing some of the background of the characters does add to the enjoyment. It is like visiting old friends from far away.

Worse still, her seatmate never returned to the plane after the L.A. layover. Now he’s dead, in a garbage can, waiting for curbside pickup. His killer could be anyone. And a ragtag collection of thugs and psychos, not to mention the FBI, are all looking for a photograph the dead man was supposed to be carrying.

Revisado: 02-18-12
There are still laugh out loud moments and great characters in this ongoing series. Lorelei King is Stepahnie and keeps it interesting. I just don't know how much longer the whole back and forth romance situation between Moreli and Ranger can go on.
