Laughable: does Not Support Listening in Order
Revisado: 12-06-21
Each time I finish an episode from the beginning, it takes me to episode 339. Pretty laughable way to listen to the Bible — backwards. Amazingly this issue has been discussed extensively on Reddit, and Amazon does nothing to fix this. The product manager for the audible plus catalog must be asleep, or have no power, or simply be unconcerned delivering product with highly negative customer experience.

Spoiler; Don't Listen to this Before Ender's Game
Revisado: 11-08-21
This anthology contains the well written short story that served as the basis for Ender's Game. So, Orson Scott Card, NO, this is not suitable to listen to ahead of the novel. Narration is excellent and even so, I want to read things in plot order - not in order of publication. Or at least, provide a warning in the introduction. Thank you.

alaxy. Humanity was slowly making their way out from Earth to the planets and asteroids of the Solar System, exploring and mining and founding colonies. The mining ship El Cavador is far out from Earth, in the deeps of the Kuiper Belt, beyond Pluto. Other mining ships, and the families that live on them, are few and far between this far out. So when El Cavador's telescopes pick up a fast-moving object coming in-system, it's hard to know what to make of it. It's massive and moving at a significant fraction of the speed of light.

The beginning- or a plot filler

Revisado: 10-09-21
I haven’t read Enders game, and I have read classic sci fi extensively from Jules Verne to Ilium. I was a little hesitant after reading negative reviews complaining that this was filler. Nothing could be further from the reality of the universe conjured here.
This book gripped my attention, building suspense, with plausible science and easy to understand. The characters were deep and sculpted with detail. The narrators were professional, each handling many voices skillfully, and capturing the emotional arcs of many characters. This telling accompanied me on several long hikes, hanging up clothes, and doing kitchen duty. I am on to the next book in the series.

Essential review
Revisado: 08-01-21
After having gone through the tutorials from this same book at the O'Reilly website, this helped reinforce my knowledge of Java 8. It provides a practical, non-academic approach to Java's functional programming features. Made for a good walking compantion and gym workout. I keep noticing things I missed the first time through; I make bookmarks and then review them when I get back to my computer.
In the spoken version, they don't explain what's in the diagrams and code samples, and what I end up with is a firm sense of what *should* be possible. There is an accopmanying pdf with code samples and figures. While the figures are sometimes referenced from the spoken text, the code sample references have to be inferred. So I'd give it four stars on the performance for that gap.
I find that inferring context from code to be a fascinating, which is maybe why I do this for a living. And, maybe this book is not going to be helpful for everyone.

Historia
Stalin’s Scribe is the first biography of a man who was once one of the Soviet Union’s most prominent political figures. Thanks to the opening of Russia’s archives, Brian Boeck discovers that Sholokhov’s official Soviet biography is actually a tangled web of legends, half-truths, and contradictions. Boeck examines the complex connection between an author and a dictator, revealing how a Stalinist courtier became an ideological acrobat and consummate politician in order to stay in favor and remain relevant after the dictator’s death.

Death of Stalin
Revisado: 10-15-20
Boeck documents the intricacies of survival in an autocracy — where extremist political narratives shift like sand dunes in the Sahara. Solokov is a powerful survivor who risks it all to fight for saving the innocent and getting the truth out. So, it’s a bit of a primer for anyone attempting to survive America in 2020.
I’ve seen Death of Stalin, the absurd movie — and am thrilled by this book’s detailed historical accounts of many of the same characters.

James Dommek, Jr., an Alaska Native writer and musician, sheds new light on a real-life mystery that pits Native American folklore against the US justice system. In the vast Alaskan Arctic, legend has it there once lived a mythic tribe—Iñukuns—that only existed in rumors and whispers. This changed forever when an actor-turned-fugitive, Teddy Kyle Smith, had an encounter that brought Iñukuns from myth to reality. Smith was an aspiring actor with a promising career until it all came quickly crashing down with a gunshot, a manhunt, bloodshed, and other frightful events.

True Life Tour de Force by Indigenous Author / interviewer / Musician
Revisado: 11-21-19
Containing true life interviews, an honest and curious straight talking tribe member tells the story of a troubled motion picture actor from a small village in northern Alaska. Periodically violent, he descends into a mythical Native American underworld. Interviews are unscripted; they are audio recordings that are taken from casting agents, village safety officers, movie soundtracks, TV interviews at Sundance, court rooms, investigative phone calls and stare law enforcement. The work is decorated with brief flourishes of native drums and native music. It slowly drew me into an the homes and dark wildernesses north of the arctic. I couldn’t stop listening until a satisfying conclusion, with a key political question left unanswered.

To Re-Enter the Internet
Revisado: 08-23-17
Any additional comments?
If business is a river, the Internet is the whitewater, so fast moving that you need to monitor trends regularly or get left behind. This is a reasonable 2016 snapshot of high level Internet strategy that covers social media marketing, natural search, paid search, and usability, areas that may be neglected by business that got into the Internet early and have not stayed up to date. This book is highly appropriate for small and midsize businesses. I was a little disappointed to hear a typo where the word 'conversation' was used instead of 'conversion' but I figured it out -- I guess audiobooks are not immune to typographical errors.

Historia
A poignant look at the disillusionment and angst of the post-World War I generation, The Sun Also Rises introduces two of Hemingway’s most unforgettable characters: Jake Barnes and Lady Brett Ashley. The story follows the flamboyant Brett and the hapless Jake as they journey from the wild nightlife of 1920s Paris to the brutal bullfighting rings of Spain with a motley group of expatriates. In his first great literary masterpiece, Hemingway portrays an age of moral bankruptcy, spiritual dissolution, unrealized love, and vanishing illusions.

Historia
Ishmael, a sailor looking for his next adventure, and his friend who happens to be a former prince, sign up to join a whaling ship in Nantucket. The morning before they set sail on their voyage, many ominous signs of what the pair's fate may be are seen and heard through sermon and prophecy as the two friends ignore the warnings and make their way to the docks. Soon into the trip, the one-legged Captain Ahab announces that the whaling adventure is really a hunt for one very specific large, white sperm whale.

Excellent Narration
Revisado: 02-10-17
If you could sum up Moby Dick in three words, what would they be?
Oh captain my captain.
What did you like best about this story?
The whale, icon of our delicate ecology, wins.
Have you listened to any of Philippe Duquenoy’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
This performance worked for me because of the narrator's youthful exuberance, which perfectly captures Ishmael's charming sense of wonder, and made it a delight to plow through this very very long book.
If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?
The Ocean God
Any additional comments?
I doubt I could make it through the print version so I'm really glad I tried this unabridged audio version.
