Historia
Most books about the history of humanity pursue either a historical or a biological approach, but Dr. Yuval Noah Harari breaks the mold with this highly original book. From examining the role evolving humans have played in the global ecosystem to charting the rise of empires, Sapiens integrates history and science to reconsider accepted narratives, connect past developments with contemporary concerns, and examine specific events within the context of larger ideas.

Very insightful
Revisado: 11-05-18
Very well thought out and organized. It reminded me of Guns, Germs, and Steel which is an all time favorite of mine, and I highly recommend it. While the narration was absolutely fine, I can't help but think that Mr. Harari would have been more entertaining to listen to.

Grant to Steve Jobs - a formula that let them turn obstacles into opportunities. Faced with impossible situations, they found the astounding triumphs we all seek.

Turning Philosophy Into Action
Revisado: 06-20-18
Outstanding if for no other reason than it draws a straight line between philosophical conviction and action. Interesting examples beyond those of the ancient Stoics, although there are plenty of those in there as well. I will be listening to this book over and over again. Starting right now.

Historia
Sleep is one of the most important but least understood aspects of our life, wellness, and longevity. Until very recently, science had no answer to the question of why we sleep, or what good it served, or why we suffer such devastating health consequences when we don't sleep. Compared to the other basic drives in life - eating, drinking, and reproducing - the purpose of sleep remained elusive.

Historia
Most of us have a limited understanding of the powerful role economics has played in shaping human civilization. This makes economic history - the study of how civilizations structured their environments to provide food, shelter, and material goods - a vital lens through which to think about how we arrived at our present, globalized moment. Designed to fill a long-empty gap in how we think about modern history, these 48 lectures are a comprehensive journey through more than 600 years of economic history.

Good content, tough to listen
Revisado: 10-27-16
If you're going to invest this kind of time into a subject you are obviously interested in it or at the very least, you are curious about it. In that regard, the audio book is interesting and educational. The narrator is tough to listen to. so many mistakes and miscues. How can The Great Courses not edit their audio books? Very disappointing as it took away from the content.

A very interesting listen. Nice job connecting the history of the Crusades with other events going on, both at the time of the Crusades as well as since.

Historia
Over a storied career, Daniel C. Dennett has engaged questions about science and the workings of the mind. His answers have combined rigorous argument with strong empirical grounding. And a lot of fun. Intuition Pumps and Other Tools for Thinking offers seventy-seven of Dennett’s most successful “imagination-extenders and focus-holders” meant to guide you through some of life’s most treacherous subject matter: evolution, meaning, mind, and free will.

Difficult, but not impossible
Revisado: 07-07-16
I'm not sure if this medium is the best way to absorb all the thick and hairy material in this book. Having said that, there are plenty of moments where the author's attempts to make the content easy to digest hit their mark. This happens just often enough to keep the reader engaged and following along, if only barely.
