Historia
Bertie Wooster's friend Gussie Fink-Nottle is sentenced to 14 days for wading in the fountain at Trafalgar Square. Bertie is worried that Gussie's fiancé Madeline will be angry because she has a distressing habit of turning her attentions to Bertie when her fiancé upsets her. Bertie has the bright idea of impersonating Gussie, and showing up at Deverill Hall. The situation is wonderfully comical when Gussie shows up, posing as Bertie. Only Jeeves, arriving in his own disguise, can sort out this mess.

Another gem from Wodehouse and Cecil
Revisado: 11-15-23
This adventure of Bertie and Jeeves plays out along lines similar to the rest of the bunch. The expected WW1-era slang, needless abbreviations, absurd nicknames, literary and biblical allusions, monosyllabic police constable, and diabolical aunts: all present and accounted for. The denouement was particularly gruntling this time around. And Jonathan Cecil still has my vote for best audiobook narrator. It feels like listening to a full-cast drama. Pip pip!

Historia
My Man Jeeves, first published in 1919, introduced the world to affable, indolent Bertie Wooster and his precise, capable valet, Jeeves. Some of the finest examples of humorous writing found in English literature are woven around the relationship between these two men of very different classes and temperaments. Where Bertie is impetuous and feeble, Jeeves is coolheaded and poised.

Wodehouse + Cecil = comic perfection
Revisado: 07-03-20
I’ve listened to several readers of Wodehouse but Jonathan Cecil is easily my favorite. If the cover art said “Read by the Author,” I wouldn’t doubt it for a second. Cecil delivers the character, tone and timing so perfectly, I would think he wrote these stories himself based on personal experience. My Man Jeeves contains some of the earliest Jeeves stories. Later novels may have more funny lines per page, but these stories are still highly quotable. Examples:
“She fitted into my biggest arm-chair as if it had been built round her by someone who knew they were wearing arm-chairs tight about the hips that season.”
“And so the merry party began. It was one of those jolly, happy, bread-crumbling parties where you cough twice before you speak, and then decide not to say it after all.”
“What ho!” I said.
“What ho!” said Motty.
“What ho! What ho!”
“What ho! What ho! What ho!”
After that it seemed rather difficult to go on with the conversation.

Typical comic genius
Revisado: 03-08-15
The Jeeves and Wooster books are, probably, the funniest stories ever written. You read (or listen), you laugh, and you don't regret laughing afterwards. The fact that the plots usually follow the same general formula doesn't rate.
There are several narrators who have recorded themselves reading the Jeeves stories, but Jonathan Cecil is, without a doubt, the real stuff. He is the best. The characters
and language come to life. Enjoy!
