Max Brooks' apocalyptic story is almost prophetic early on as his characters tell their stories of how they and the governments of numerous nations ignore, cover-up, spin, or capitalize on their pandemic situation. Details later on do a great job of predicting the probable course of events and reactions of humankind.

Rowdy, gun-loving fun!

Larry Correia does a wonderful job of building his alternate (we believe and hope) universe and the characters therein. He slyly shadows a few stereotypes in the process and parodies a couple more. Die-hard gun addicts can get a serious fix in the battle scenes but our hero, Owen Pitt, is really a pretty regular guy. More afraid of a girl breaking his heart than one who might rip it out of his chest. I'm starting the sequel immediately.
Oliver Wyman is a masterful reader. He seems able to give voice to just about any ethnic background, gender, or race. He really adds a lot of visual color to a very fun story and I will definitely add him to my list to watch for.

Andy Andrews is awesome as always!

Andy offers the reader/listener an exceptional access into his home and community in "Just Jones". His characters are as real as it gets (since you could go meet most of them!) Jones' presence and wisdom are always a blessing to the reader and Andy's adept reading of the tale breathes life into the people and makes you feel like a close friend is relating a personal event to you.

Old favorite of mine.

This is one of very few books I have bothered to read more than once. It is full of very memorable characters you can relate too or envy for their skills.
Alas, as much as I love this take, it was almost painful to listen to it. The reader is very clear in his pronunciation, but it's a lot like listening to Sgt. Joe Friday reading it. Almost no emotion or life is breathed into the characters.

Love this series by Terry Mancour! Very engaging characters with realistic personalities.
Outstandingly performed by John Lee. I see that the side story "Hawk Maiden" is read by someone else and I hope he's at least half as good. Hate to have a great story shot down by a reader you can't hear or understand half the time.

Life Changing

Ayn Rand's Atlas Shrugged should be required reading for everyone over the age of 15 or so. While I disagree with a few small views expressed in this novel, 98% is dead on. The image of the U.S. in the hands of the Final Evolutionary form of the Socialist is very disturbing when you look at the current politics of the U.S. Stephen King has no idea of what terror is. Rand tells a true tale of horror, and though it was written half a century ago, it is nearly prophetic in it's scope.

Very engaging and relatable characters, superbly voiced by John Lee. Lee does a great job bringing Mancour's work to life. A "different voice" for each major character and the amazing ability to not mix them up in the process!
