Historia
It is said that the canal will be the greatest feat of engineering in history. But first, it must be built. For Francisco, a local fisherman who resents the foreign powers clamoring for a slice of his country, nothing is more upsetting than the decision of his son, Omar, to work as a digger in the excavation zone. But for Omar, whose upbringing was quiet and lonely, this job offers a chance to finally find connection.

Details of that time period
Revisado: 03-25-24
The details of everyday life and difficulties were amazing. The building of canal with almost all manual labor along with the diseases worker faced left me in awe of this accomplishment. The author intermixed cultural differences along with the diversities of races in Panama in such an entertaining way. The reader was so skilled with accents that every character seemed very real. Great book.

WOW!!
Revisado: 02-03-23
This may be the most skillfully written book I've read. The plot was complex, the psychology driving each character and their interactions was amazing. The historical information seemed to be quite accurate. I learned a lot. I wept inside for the injustices that occured. I never got bored and this book is lengthy. the narrator was very believable. 5 stars!

Historia
The year 1996 was the one that changed everything for Maggie Dawes. Sent away at 16 to live with an aunt she barely knew in Ocracoke, a remote village on North Carolina’s Outer Banks, she could think only of the friends and family she left behind...until she met Bryce Trickett, one of the few teenagers on the island. Handsome, genuine, and newly admitted to West Point, Bryce showed her how much there was to love about the wind-swept beach town - and introduced her to photography, a passion that would define the rest of her life. By 2019, Maggie is a renowned travel photographer.

Historia
Seth Hubbard is a wealthy man dying of lung cancer. He trusts no one. Before he hangs himself from a sycamore tree, Hubbard leaves a new, handwritten, will. It is an act that drags his adult children, his Black maid, and Jake into a conflict as riveting and dramatic as the murder trial that made Brigance one of Ford County's most notorious citizens, just three years earlier. The second will raises far more questions than it answers. Why would Hubbard leave nearly all of his fortune to his maid? Had chemotherapy and painkillers affected his ability to think clearly?

Powerful and moving.
Revisado: 10-07-22
Powerful and moving. This book is up there with some of the great classics. I will remember this for a very long time. It left me feeling both an ache for the injustices that stamped out all happiness for some and also a hope for the future. It was a very well written book.

Exceptional, educational and relevant in life's lessons. The characters were so believable they flowed evenly without even noticing they were fictional. This story will stay with me.
