I think the initial reviewer was only partially correct - there is some redundancy. If you listen in a deeper level, he talks about not having a mindset of dependency on systems, items, another person.
The other thing about the book is that it’s written by a guy who has seen how large numbers of people function after a large scale problem. He’s trying to connect what he’s seen so many people struggle with when they are actually in that moment and, functioning at a lower level due to the cognitive load of going through a disaster, with what we could do now that would actually be high yield as opposed to what we would imagine would be high yield.

She says narcissism is genetic

There is a paper that suggests that entitlement and feelings of grandiosity may have a small genetic component, but even if those two traits were 100% genetic (which they definitely are not) then that still isn’t enough to meet diagnostic criteria for the disorder. Please don’t believe your child genetically inherits narcissism.
This book is fine if you wish you could listen to a girlfriend go off about your toxic spouse/ex for an hour but g/f is over saturated from talking about it so much. If you feel like you’re suffocating from the lived experience, then working with a therapist to start improving your boundaries in real time is probably more helpful.

My kid likes it, but I don’t understand why.

It’s just hard to listen to. The series is about a little girl that might possibly benefit from a stimulant trial, but the real problem is that there is such a poor match between the little girl and her family, and her older family members (who by definition have had more of a chance to develop better coping mechanisms and perspective) are not so interested in helping her or showing her compassion.
She can’t read well and it’s no surprise, with how many problems such a little girl has to shoulder, that she doesn’t have the band width to learn to read. No one arranges a speech and language eval, no one arranged IQ and achievement testing for the kid, the parents go on blaming her for talking so much. Geez, no wonder she has a hard time distinguishing between reality and her imagination world.
My kid likes this series and I just don’t understand why. Everybody in the family needs therapy, and maybe the kid deserves weekly respite care from the rest of them.

It came up with some kid humor searches, but it is -not- a humor book.
