Historia
In the aftermath of the 2020 presidential election, Donald Trump and many around him, including certain other elected Republican officials, intentionally breached their oath to the Constitution: they ignored the rulings of dozens of courts, plotted to overturn a lawful election, and provoked a violent attack on our Capitol.

Informative and inspiring
Revisado: 01-19-24
This book was an eye opener. Even though I watched the whole thing on TV, it was an excellent refresher of what we, as a democracy, are up against this coming November. I only wish Trump loyalists would read it.
One thing that stood out to me was how bipartisan the House and Senate are in their everyday work. I had imagined they crossed the aisle to communicate with the other party more often than they apparently do. That is very disappointing to me - it needs to change. Communication is everything!
Thank you, Liz Chaney. You did a great service to us all by writing this book!

Revisado: 10-09-22
Hum-drum story at best. Narration was just plain awful….ponderous and monotone. I have over 1500 books in my library, and this one falls in the bottom 10. Were it not for the fact it was in a two for one sale, I wouldn’t have bought it. Definitely not recommended.

Mediocre
Revisado: 04-21-20
Content was at introduction level only, and seemed to be mostly limited to Western Europe, mainly England and France. I am not a scholar in any sense of the word, but there was little new in what was discussed - I had heard most of it before at one point or another. The professor spoke as if to a classroom full of 5th graders, very slowly and repetitively, which I found very annoying. I don't regret buying it, but I will not purchase another Great Courses book by this professor.

Awful narrator ruined it
Revisado: 09-28-19
I might have liked this better with a different narrator. Considering how many great narrators are out there, it is disappointing that this one was selected for such a long series. He was just so monotone and expressionless that it was grating to my nerves and therefore couldn't hold my interest. No sense of emotion, or suspense or drama at all. And since he narrates most of the remaining books in the series, I will definitely not be continuing with it, and I will be returning this one. Pity, since I like a good mystery series.

Yay! For once, nothing about Eve's childhood!
Revisado: 02-06-19
I don't necessarily think this was a bad book, although not one of the best in the series. Very little suspense. However, I was SO glad to see that Nora did not once bring up Eve's childhood trauma (for the first time in 49 books!), that I had to give it 4 stars instead of 3. I was heartily sick of that, since it had been done "to Death". That, and the fact that Mira did not guide Eve into the crime's resolution as she usually does was so novel a turnaround that I look forward to her next book! Hope this pattern continues.
Susan Erickson, as always, did an excellent job. A little off on her narration of the ME, but otherwise, all of the remaining characters were consistent with previous books. I have purchased all of the audio books in this series, and I don't see myself stopping now! Definitely recommended.

Life for Victoria Lacey should be perfect. And it is - perfectly boring. Agree to marry a lord who has yet to inspire a single, solitary tingle? Why, of course. Smile as though this is not the thousandth time he's mentioned hounds and hunting? It's all in a day's work for the oh-so-proper sister of the Duke of Blackmore. Surely no one would suspect her secret longing for heart-racing, head-spinning passion. Except, perhaps, a dark stranger...on a terrace...at a ball where she should definitely not be kissing a man she has only just met.

Awful Narration Ruined this Audiobook
Revisado: 01-18-19
The narration of this book was downright horrible. The British accent was so obviously fake, and to me, it was so distracting that I could not really follow the story. Her pronunciation of such common everyday words as 'cat', 'caught', 'back', 'caution' was utterly ridiculous. And no self-respecting Brit, or anyone at all with a familiarity of historical romances, would have pronounced 'Beau Brummel' the way this narrator did - it was absolutely appalling! On top of the hundreds of horrific pronunciations, the overall tone of the narration was just plain melancholy. And it was read at a fixed pace (rather fast) throughout. I absolutely hated it, and I will never download another book by this narrator. Needless to say, I will NOT continue the series (since all subsequent books have the same narrator), and will return this book as soon as this review is submitted.
NOT recommended.

Georgie, or Lady Georgiana Rannoch, is busy planning her upcoming nuptials to Darcy O'Mara. Unfortunately, what has started as a simple wedding has become quite a royal headache and grand affair, thanks to a guest list that includes the queen and the appointment of princesses as Georgie's bridesmaids. “If only Darcy and I had eloped!” she thinks, as she attempts to organize her wedding and find a place for her and her husband-to-be to live. Just as she despairs of ever finding a home, her godfather offers his fully staffed country estate. But something sinister is afoot....

Great New Narrator
Revisado: 08-10-18
First, I was sad to hear of the tragic passing of Katherine Kellgren, who I thought did a fantastic job with the Royal Spyness and Bloody Jack series' and countless other audiobook narrations. She was one of the best! I knew she would be tough to replace, but I really think they did it! This new narrator is, in my opinion, even slightly better than KK (I said SLIGHTLY, so please don't think I'm speaking ill of the dead - I am NOT!). She does not shout, which was the one thing that occasionally put me off about KK, even though I always gave her 5 stars for her narration. I will have no problem continuing this series in Audio format.
And as usual, the story itself was great. It was nice to see Georgie's mom become a little more human for once. I think this is my favorite book of the series so far. Definitely worth the credit!

Historia
Many of us know the Black Death as a catastrophic event of the medieval world. But the Black Death was arguably the most significant event in Western history, profoundly affecting every aspect of human life, from the economic and social to the political, religious, and cultural. In its wake the plague left a world that was utterly changed, forever altering the traditional structure of European societies and forcing a rethinking of every single system of Western civilization: food production and trade, the church, political institutions, law, art, and more.

Great content, annoying narration
Revisado: 07-01-18
This series of lectures was very interesting and informative. I learned a lot about the impact of the Black Death on society as we know it today.
However, the narration was delivered as if to sixth graders, constantly emphasizing points made just seconds earlier, and repeating almost everything numerous times throughout the lectures. I thought it was overkill, as I imagine it is adults, and not children, who are the likely listeners to these lectures. I found this condescension both annoying and distracting. The professor did have a clear voice however, and you could tell she was enthusiastic about the subject matter.
Overall, I think it was a very good investment of my time, and I am glad I downloaded it.

Too Christian for me...will return it.
Revisado: 06-30-18
I don't mind a sweet and clean romance at all (e.g. Georgette Heyer's regency novels), but I object to those that bring so much of God and prayer into it. I listened to the first book and noticed a little of this, but not so much as to put me off from ordering the second. Big mistake. This one had a lot more of it and it totally turned me off. I don't like being preached to, and that is what it felt like. Also, this book was TOO insipid and TOO long.
I will not be continuing with this series and I will return this book. I wish Audible would identify Christian books in their synopses - if they had done so I never would have started this series. No offense intended to those of you who like this stuff, but it's just not my cup of tea.
