Historia
It's been a long 17 years but Herschel Wood, Jr., is finally a free man and he's looking forward to reconnecting with his old cellmate, Bishop Stockley, who promised him a place to stay and some help getting back on his feet. Trent Armstrong has never been considered a catch. He's a 29-year-old laborer, an ex-con, and not the easiest person to get along with. He's used to being the one people cast to the side when they're done with him. Everyone he's ever cared about has walked out of his life without a backward glance, so he's used to the loneliness.

Very Good

way way more than just good smut
Revisado: 01-08-25
This book is a mix of well written erotica as well as some pretty deep issues. One of them is addiction and recovery from the addict's point of view. It also deals with the very real issues facing someone spending almost 20 years in prison and trying to fit into a strange society and get their feet under them financially. There's a lot of happy ending stuff to lighten it.
I don't know what I was expecting from this book, I kind of put it in my shelf with a bunch of others at the time. But I'm glad I "read" it and I really look forward to reading more of this author. I think this book is part of a series.
Also the narrator knows how to growl....

best plot but worst written
Revisado: 06-15-24
I think a lot, if not all was written by AI. A ton of really weird repeats and explanations for things everyone is familiar with, and all main characters were super cliche
but
This plot and storyline had me hooked. I loved it. If you can ignore the first 3 super weirdly written chapters where the characters are described, the story itself is super weird and dark and I wasn't expecting the end.
There's some strange details like a radiator cracked so it emitted carbon monoxide and a 4runner as a massive SUV.

this dude should absolutely not be in law enforcement
Revisado: 02-25-24
The main character has almost no rage control and seems to space out a lot and be completely unable to handle stress. He is almost always in a state of "rage boiling over". The whole story I honestly thought he was the murderer. Hope the "psych eval" threatened in the end of this book happens.
I found this book searching RC Bray. This narrator could narrate a metallurgic phase diagram and I'd listen

Historia

author quite the judge
Revisado: 11-09-23
I was kind of enjoying this story until a scene came up with the main character spending time with her friend.
The main character's internal monologue about this friend broke my heart. The friend is an adult woman, enjoying her best life, has been through the trauma of losing a spouse.
Yet the main character pretty much calls her only friend a slut, and admits to the reader that's she only spends time with her because she's lonely.
Why does the author feel the need to trash someone's life? It doesn't make the main character look anything but a judgemental a hole. Xians really are the worst.
You can still have your dewy virginal "not like other girls" main characters without putting others down. Lift up other women, author.

Has this writer ever encountered a woman, ever?
Revisado: 02-15-23
Hopefully this book was mainly written by someone who was in their younger years and had little to no interactions with women?
I liked that the main character with his background in performance art had a confidence and cockiness that set him apart from other heros of his type. It was different.
I liked that the magic use was a combination of natural talent, some guess work, but also a lot of hard work and studying.
I liked the clever ways he was able to solve his and others' issues, get himself out of jams, and befriend people that show up later.
I just don't understand why the only female characters are people that are only there to praise him or seem to all secretly lust after him.
The main female character is a wasted opportunity to show how she finds her way to live in the world she's in despite past and very current trauma yet it isn't her one and only character trait. I'm guessing by the times and places she randomly shows up, she's one of the blue fire people he's looking for?
Wish he had figured out a way to befriend the dragon.
It took me a few years to limp through this book. I don't know if I can continue, plus the 3rd isn't written yet.

However the volume is EXTREMELY LOW, then the ads blow out your ear drums even they come on.

I used to think no combo could come close to the combination of Stephen King and Frank Muller but this blew me away. I often shop for books based on Frank Muller narrating and I've been avoiding the series I don't know why but glad I ran out of Frank Mueller books except for Moby Dick and will continue with the series. I did skip the first one I don't know who that narrator is very suspicious
